I figured I would introduce myself, as I never have & this is my tenth year in the industry.
My name is Alyssa & a decade ago I made a decision. I was good in school, but never loved it. I was an A/B student with out putting any effort in. I understood what was being taught, & never had to study to maintain those grades. I never wanted to study, and I never wanted to do homework. School just wasn't my thing. So what was my thing? I had NO IDEA but I LOVED money as soon as I was able to earn it. I picked up my first gig at 13, & by 16 I dropped out of sports to maintain two jobs through out high school. I had no problem picking up shifts because I knew pay day would be worth it to me!
So let's bring you up to age 21. I found myself slowly helping out on a roofing crew. Of course what started as a ground clean up, turned into a laborer. By the third job I could manage all the "feeders" jobs & could pick out what the shingler was doing wrong. From then on I started laying shingles. I remember my first time I was so nervous that the feeder threw me a shingle upside down & I installed it that way 😂
What started as a fun little trial, turned into a full blown passion. The problem about this industry is nobody really respects roofers. I will admit, they are a rough bunch... but damn do they work hard. The problem is drugs and alcohol are a common occurrence in the trades, & roofing has a pretty high ranking of people with issues. I noted the money opportunity and had a new idea. Why not take something I loved doing & turn it into my career. I already had the mentality most didn't. Never to touch drugs, & leave the alcohol to good times, not all the time.
So by age 22, I was roofing EVERY SINGLE sunny day. You didn't see me unless it was raining. I started my days at 5am, and wouldnt get home until 11p some nights. I was running on adrenaline from being a kick-ass woman in the trades, being my own boss, and of course, the paycheck at the end of the week.
So short story long, I earned my tan & my stripes. I was prideful, honest, and absorbing everything I could learn from anyone around me. I quickly outgrew many minds as most people just consider this "a job." I stand behind my career choice happily because it's truly my passion. I decided to keep growing. I took every opportunity that came my way. Siding, lets learn. Repairs, let's diagnose. Fencing, lets lay it straight. Painting, let me make the most beautiful house on the block. I opened the door and my mind to it all. I never miss an opportunity to teach someone because I want everyone to learn the tricks of the trade.
Now bringing you up to date, here we are with a small business & a big goal! A few years ago we made a decision to push harder than ever to branch off away from other contractors as much as possible, as our goals didn't align. Why not put all the effort into ourselves & do the best we could in the big world ? Now you may ask, am I doing this alone? Absolutely not! My soon-to-be-husband and other owner of the company is the one putting in the long strenuous work days on a roof. So at the end of the day, you truly get an owner-operated company. From the first call to the final inspection, we do it all. I know you probably hear it often, but you're not just getting another company looking for a sale and a signature. You truly are getting someone who loves & cares about what they do.
