Rohrer Seeds

Rohrer Seeds The home of quality garden seeds and supplies, in the heart of Lancaster County, PA! Rohrer Seeds was started by P. L.

Rohrer in 1919 with the publication of the company’s first seed catalog. In those days the catalog focused on farm seeds as well as garden seeds. As the company has grown and changed over the years, the one thing that has remained is a commitment to the home gardener through our retail catalog and retail store. We are still located at our original site in Smoketown, PA although we have expanded se

veral times over the last 90+ years. Four generations of Rohrer’s have helped establish and maintain a family seed business in the heart of Lancaster County with Doug Rohrer as the current President. Over the years Rohrer Seeds has strived to constantly offer quality seeds at a fair price while providing good old-fashioned service. We are very thankful for our loyal customers who have allowed us the privilege of serving the community for so many years. We look forward to continuing to serve the needs of the many different gardeners in the years to come.

🌱Do you plan on using cover crops in your garden this fall? It's time to start thinking about what you want to plant!🌱

A few questions to ask yourself when considering using a cover crop in your garden:
1. What is your goal? (Erosion control, nutrients, organic matter, etc.)
2. How will you eradicate it? (Winter kill, till it in, herbicide, etc.)
3. How are you planting? (Broadcast or Drill)

Cover crops are a great way to build your soil health and are fairly easy to incorporate into your garden plans! If you are new to using cover crops, Groundhog Radish and Austrian Winter Peas are a great place to start, as they winter kill and provide good soil coverage!

🥗Nervous about buying lettuce at the store? Good news is, you can grow it yourself this fall!🥗

Lettuce is extremely easy to grow from seed and there are so many amazing varieties to choose from. We recommend starting with nice loose soil in an area with full-sun, to partial shade. With lettuce seed being very fine, you only want to cover the seed lightly. Depending on what type of lettuce you grow and how you plant it, you will most likely need to think out the seedlings as they start to sprout.

What are your best tips and tricks for growing lettuce?!?

🌱Looking for something fun to add to your fall garden?!? 🌱

Raab Spring Rapini Broccoli is has great flavor and is fun to grow! Plant this crop early and enjoy a regular harvest of large, thin-stemmed leaves and side shoots. Perfectly cooked, it makes a great addition to any meal; steam, grill, or sauté it for maximum flavor. Delicious and nutritious!

In late-summer, you can start your seeds indoors and once they are a few weeks old, transplant them outside. Keep plants well-watered. Harvest when the buds of the head are firm by cutting the stalk of the main head at a slant, and smaller side shoots will grow up from where you’ve cut.

Happy growing!

💥Planning to have a fall garden? It is time to start thinking about starting seeds for fall crops!💥

Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower do well when started in trays early and then transplanted out once the weather starts to cool down! Root veggies such as turnips, radishes, beets, and carrots can be planted late-July through August for a fall harvest!
