This has been my most ambitious project, I believe. I found two chairs at Goodwill that had good "bones", but were really grungy. I mean, you could see the outline of a body in the fabric on each of them! However, I knew I would be replacing the fabric and foam, so that didn't really matter. I like getting furniture at Goodwill and Salvation Army (and other such places) because I know they have been treated to annihilate any unwelcome guests of the insect variety.
So, having found these really nice chairs, I began the process of finding the right fabric. This is the most fun part of the process for me. I am not a professional upholsterer, so the work is kind of hard for me. But I LOVE the creative process of finding the fabric that showcases a piece. I finally found just what I wanted at Hobby Lobby in the marked down section. However, it wasn't marked down near enough, so I took the risk of waiting. And I waited. And waited. It took six months, but it finally went on sale enough that I could justify getting it.
It has taken a long time to get them done. Of course, there were some big family things going on, so they only got worked on in intervals, but eventually I reached the finish line! I'm pleased with them.
My next projects will be an early 70's era love seat and an antique settee. I can't wait to show you what I've chosen for them!
Happy spring, my friends. As I take yucky furniture and restore it to beauty, I always think how God takes my yucky and makes it beautiful again. (Sometimes that, too, takes a long time!!) As the earth renews itself and ugly turns beautiful again, let's let Him work on our hearts!
