Today I want to tell you a little about Lithops, one of the most fascinating plants out there 🤍

💡 Try looking at the last photo and count how many Lithops you can spot!

In the wild, they grow in the deserts of southern Africa. Their leaves are made up of gel-like tissue that stores water for survival. In a scorched desert where rain doesn’t fall for months, any animal would be thrilled to stumble across such a plump, juicy plant to quench its thirst. To avoid being eaten by desert creatures, Lithops evolved to mimic their surroundings: rocks, sand, and gravel. Making them nearly impossible to spot among the stones. Researchers are still discovering new varieties to this day, in the most wonderfully unusual textures and shades!
Once a year, a Lithops sheds. The outer pair of leaves splits open to reveal a fresh new pair, sometimes even two or three pairs emerge at once. This is one of the ways Lithops reproduce, alongside growing from seed.
And yes, they bloom! The flower is usually yellow or white and surprisingly large. Large enough to completely swallow up the tiny Lithops beneath it. At night, the bud closes back up.

Look at these little cuties 🍑 my Pachyphytum oviferum are the sweetest!
They get that soft peachy glow from lots of light (I use grow lights), a well-draining soil mix, and watering only once in a while.

Hoya has some of the cutest flowers 🤩 They’re fluffy, in soft shades, and they smell absolutely delicious too!
