After 50 years in the flooring business—and three decades leading what has become the world’s largest flooring company—Jeff Lorberbaum is preparing to step away from the CEO role at Mohawk Flooring.

In this month’s Focus on Leadership, Lorberbaum reflects on the evolution of Mohawk from a carpet company into a global flooring powerhouse, the acquisitions that helped reshape the business, the lessons he learned along the way and why he believes Paul De C**k is ready to lead Mohawk into its next chapter.

He also shares his perspective on independent flooring retailers, competing with Bob Shaw and what he hopes comes next after five decades in the industry.

As part of this year's tribute, Mohawk joined About All Floors at West Point for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation's Steel Across America Tour, helping keep the spirit of remembrance alive for future generations.

Today, the Mohawk and About All Floors teams had the privilege of seeing history up close.

The 21-foot, 16,900-pound steel beam from the South Tower arrived as part of the Tunnel to Towers Steel Across America tour, a powerful reminder of a day we will never forget.

At West Point, the beam honored the heroes who answered the call that day, including Stephen Siller, who gave his life at the South Tower.

Once part of a “tower of voices”, the steel now carries the weight of silence while reminding us of the resilience, unity, and service that continue to bring us together.

We Will Never Forget.
