Yeah, even strawberries have their own rules! Like a queen!

05/13/2026

Got 5 sad little berries last year? It really wasn't you.

Most strawberry plants don't make it to the first flower — and nobody hands beginners the rules.

4 that matter way more than watering or feeding:

1. Crown depth — sit it right at soil level. An inch off either way and the plant's done.
2. Soil pH — keep it acidic, 5.5 to 6.5. Higher and your berries come out tasting like watery cardboard.
3. Pinch every flower the first month — but only on small seedlings. (Bought a big mature plant in a pot? Skip this — its roots are already strong.)
4. Never plant strawberries where roses, raspberries, or blackberries grew in the last 3 years. They share soil diseases that linger.

The aspirin dose (yes, the medicine cabinet kind), the root soak before planting, the calcium gluconate myth, and 5 more quiet mistakes that wreck strawberry beds — drop "berries" in the comments 👇 and I'll send the full guide.

Your eggshells are free calcium fertilizer for tomatoes and a natural slug barrier 🐌

If you're a first-time gardener, don't throw them out. Eggshells are 95% calcium carbonate (the same compound in agricultural lime), and your tomatoes literally need it to prevent blossom end rot 🍅.

Here's the 4-step plan:

1. Save your shells. Just rinse, no need to scrub.
2. Oven-dry them.
3. Grind into fine powder for soil fertilizer, or coarse pieces for a slug barrier.
4. Apply at the right time, to the right plants.

The exact temperature, timing, ratios, and which plants love it (and which to skip) — comment "dacha" 👇 and I'll send you the full recipe.

We have been waiting to say this.

easyDacha is now on the App Store. 🌱

Here is the honest version of how we got here.

Two years ago, I thought building a vegetable garden planner would take a few months of work. You gather plant data, build a task list, connect it to a calendar.

Done.

That was wrong.

Plants do not work like software. Every vegetable has its own care logic: when to water, how to feed, which pests to watch at which growth stage. Every US growing zone shifts the timing completely. "Plant your tomatoes" is March in Texas and June in Minnesota. And every gardener who finds a new app is already somewhere in the middle of their season, not starting fresh on day one of spring.

We had to build something that understood all of that. No generic advice. Real plant care plans for real gardens.

Stop Buying the Wrong Soil! 🪴
Choosing the wrong bag at the garden center is a leading cause of plant failure. Save this quick cheat sheet for your next shopping trip! 🛒

1. Topsoil (The Ground Filler)
• What: Natural soil scraped from the earth; heavy and dense.
• Best for: Filling large holes, leveling lawns, or grading land.
• ⚠️ Avoid: Never use it alone in pots! It compacts easily, suffocating roots and harboring weeds/pests.
2. Garden Soil (The Bed Builder)
• What: Topsoil enriched with organic matter like compost or manure.
• Best for: Improving in-ground vegetable beds and planting trees or shrubs.
• Pro Tip: It helps hold moisture in outdoor environments but is still too heavy for containers.
3. Potting Mix (The Container King)
• What: Usually "soilless" (peat/coir + perlite). Lightweight and sterile.
• Best for: All indoor plants, hanging baskets, and pots.
• Benefit: Excellent drainage prevents root rot and keeps "hitchhiking" pests out of your home.
4. Seed Starting Mix (The Baby Nursery)
• What: Extra-fine, light, and low-nutrient medium.
• Best for: Sowing seeds in small plug trays.
• Why: Seeds have their own initial nutrients; they just need air and consistent moisture to sprout.
🚫 The "Drainage Rock" Myth Stop putting rocks in the bottom of your pots! This creates a Perched Water Table, actually raising the saturation zone and keeping roots in a "swamp". For better drainage, just use a taller pot and a high-quality potting mix.

Stop planting in the dark. ☀️

90% of gardeners underestimate how much light their yard actually gets.

Save this solar cheat sheet for your next planting session 👇
🍅 High-demand fruiting crops
Tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers
Need 8–10+ hours of direct sun
They need serious solar energy to produce sugars for fruit.
🥕 Medium-demand root crops
Carrots, beets, radishes
Can manage with 5–6 hours of sun
Extra energy goes into building roots underground.
🥬 Low-demand leafy greens
Kale, spinach, lettuce
Often fine with 3–4 hours
Leaves require much less energy than fruits.
Important reminder:
- Shadow patterns change with the seasons.
A small summer fence shadow can stretch several meters by fall or winter. Always check light more than once during the year.
easyDacha helps you calculate spacing automatically based on your garden layout, so you always know how many plants actually fit. No overcrowding. No wasted space.

There is something incredibly moving about watching life push through the soil before the world is truly ready for it. These tulips and daffodils are more than just a decoration; they represent the kind of love that doesn't wait for perfect conditions to start growing. Sometimes, the most beautiful things in our lives are the ones that arrive a little early, reminding us that hope has its own timeline.
As Valentine's Day approaches, I'm reflecting on the love that stays steady even when the ground outside is still cold and bare. It’s a quiet reminder that growth isn't always about the season, but about the heart behind it.
That belief is also at the heart of what we’re building at easyDacha. We started this project because we truly love gardening — not just the harvest, but the process, the learning, the small wins, and even the waiting. And just like these early blooms, we’ve been growing something behind the scenes. Our app is launching soon, and we can’t wait to share it with you.
If you’d like to be among the first to see it bloom, join our pre-launch list: https://easydacha.com/thankyou

If this moment of quiet growth resonated with you, I'd love to hear what's blooming in your life right now.

STOP SOAKING your seeds! 🛑💦

Soaking isn’t a "one-size-fits-all" rule. Do it wrong, and you’re just inviting rot before the seeds even sprout. Here is your quick cheat sheet to get it right:

✅ WHEN TO SOAK (The "Big Guys")
Best for large, hard-shelled seeds like Peas, Beans, and Corn.

How: 8–12 hours in room-temp water.
Pro Tip: Keep the lid loose! Seeds need oxygen to breathe while they hydrate.
Limit: Never exceed 24 hours unless specified.
🚫 WHEN TO SKIP (The "Divas")

Tiny seeds: (Carrots, Lettuce) — they’ll just turn into a sticky mess.
Coated/Pelleted seeds: You’ll wash away the expensive protective layer.
Indoor starts: If you’re using trays, your moisture is already controlled!
📱 GARDENING MADE SIMPLE
Stop guessing which seeds need a bath! The easyDacha app gives you custom "Soak or Skip" prompts for every plant in your garden, plus reminders to "soak tonight, plant tomorrow."

🌿 DOUBLE YOUR HARVEST WITH PRO TIPS! 🌿
---
1. INTERCROPPING: GROW FRIENDS TOGETHER! 👯‍♂️
Mixing plants saves space and stops pests.
EXAMPLE: TOMATOES + BASIL. Basil's scent masks the tomato plant, confusing pests like hornworms.
---
FOLLOW THE 3 RULES:
>> HEIGHT: Don't let tall plants shade the small guys.
>> LEAVES: Huge leaves (like cabbage) shouldn't smother neighbors.
>> ROOTS: Root crops (like carrots and potatoes) shouldn't fight for space underground.
---
2. CROP ROTATION: CHANGE SEATS YEARLY! 🔄
Moving plant families prevents pests and nutrient loss.
TIP: Plant BEANS or PEAS after "heavy eaters" to naturally put nitrogen back into the soil!

3. ONLY 2 GARDEN BEDS? 🏘️
You can still restore your soil!
>> COVER CROPS: Plant CLOVER or MUSTARD in the off-season as a vitamin boost for the earth.
>> ADD COMPOST: Replenish nutrients every year with organic matter or well-rotted manure.
---
4. EASYDACHA APP SAVES THE DAY! 📱
Forget messy notebooks!
The easyDacha app remembers exactly what you plant THIS season. Next year, it tells you exactly where you CAN or CANNOT plant based on your garden's history to keep your soil healthy and pest-free.
