Why is identity theft protection important? Here's why:
A "management alert" from the Department of Homeland Security's Office of Inspector General found that FEMA released banking, addresses and other private information of 2.3 MILLION people who survived Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Maria and the 2017 California wildfires to an unidentified contractor.
The March 15 memo stated, "...the disaster survivors involved in the privacy incident are at increased risk of identity theft and fraud."

Millions of hurricane and wildfire survivors are learning that they're at "increased risk of identity theft and fraud" because the Federal Emergency Management Agency shared their banking and other private information.
