Trudeau Associates values a quality campus living experience and knows that students living on-campus have greater success in achieving their financial and career goals after college. Post-pandemic, many schools have excess beds, but the overarching issue is not quantity; it’s affordability and quality. This past decade alone, many universities have had to meet an increase in the demand for quality campus housing for their students as “enrollment has exceeded on-campus housing growth.” Although students receiving scholarships and tuition assistance experience some financial reprieve from the rising costs of yearly tuition, systemic barriers experienced by “students of color, LGBTQ students, first-generation students, Pell grant recipients, part-time students, and students who are parents” are disproportionately affected. Trudeau Associates believes that all students “craving the full campus experience,” should be supported to have that experience. We look forward to the day when states like New York, which currently provide no support to campus living facilities, subsidize campus living. It is often the highest barrier for students seeking an education and we encourage making campus living more accessible, affordable, and worthwhile for all students.
