Why eat local? Because nothing compares to the flavor of fresh-picked produce. These strawberries were washed, hulled, and ready to become jam the same day they were picked. I buy my strawberries from Julies Acre in Weatherby, and Ivan Yutzy, an Amish farmer outside of Jamesport.

Check it out! This is where I get my tart cherries for cherry syrup & Cherry Pie Jam. I can almost taste it!

Thanks to everyone for all the kind comments on the previous post! Here are some pics of cherries developing. Obviously the cherries are smaller than the peaches, but because they are such a small fruit, they ripen earlier. We expect cherries to be ready to pick in June. Blackberries are just now starting to bloom. Blackberries are generally ready to pick in July. We have some of the best looking blackberry plants we've ever had. Very encouraging. I expect lots and lots of large blackberries from our thornless blackberries.

Today, I am preparing for the upcoming jelly season by using what's left of the fruit I froze last summer. Also, I was given this lovely copper jam pan by my wonderful hubby and I need to try it out before I am in the thick of the season. It is a dream to cook in! The kids and I have decided that we will have toast and fresh raspberry jam for dinner tonight, in celebration!
