When designing the remodel for our kitchen, I had always imagined an old rectangular farm table as an island. However, after months of living without anything, I admit I worried it would impede our flow as the fridge is opposite the sink in the space. So when this beautiful, albeit small and round, gateleg table turned up on , I never imagined it would find the perfect home in our kitchen. And yet here she is, the missing piece I never knew I was looking for.

I spent the first half of today scouring every thrift store and salvage shop I know to find an old piece of furniture I can retrofit as a builtin for our laundry/mudroom. My efforts were to no avail. I did, however, happen to notice this darling original painting just as I was leaving the last store. For a whole $2 it may have made the other failed attempts worthwhile 😉

$40 in used chair rail, an old salvaged walnut board and a can of Emerald paint and our front entry closet has completely transformed.
What was once unsightly and unpractical is now not only beautiful but extremely functional for the way we live. Whether it’s giving our young boys access to hang their coats and backpacks or a place to store wood and kindling before going on the fire, this little nook is a powerhouse in our home and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.
