🪵 What to Expect Wednesday: Your hardwood moves!

Hardwood is a natural product, which means it reacts to the environment inside your home.

During our hot, humid summers, wood can absorb moisture and expand. During cold, dry winters, it can lose moisture and contract—which means you may notice small gaps between some of your planks.
Don't panic! Small seasonal changes can be completely normal.

Maintaining the proper humidity in your home is one of the most important things you can do to help protect your hardwood floors year-round.

PriceCo recommends maintaining 30–50% relative humidity throughout the year and following your flooring manufacturer's care guidelines.

The more you know before installation, the fewer surprises afterward. 💚

Did you know what goes UNDER your floor matters just as much as the floor itself? 🤯

Underlayment is the thin layer installed between your subfloor and your finished flooring, and it does a lot of work you never see.

🔇 It reduces sound transmission between floors, which matters a lot in two-story homes.

🌡️ It adds a layer of thermal insulation, making floors feel warmer underfoot in cooler months.

🦶 It creates a softer, more comfortable feel underfoot, especially with hard surface flooring.

Skipping or cutting corners on underlayment is one of the most common ways a flooring project ends up feeling "off" after installation.

Myth: Your floors have to be 100% level before new flooring can be installed.

❌ False!

Here's the truth...
Over time, every home naturally settles. As seasons change, building materials expand and contract, which can create small dips or uneven spots in your subfloor. That's completely normal!

The good news? Your subfloor doesn't have to be perfectly level—it needs to be properly prepared and flat according to the flooring manufacturer's installation requirements.
If we find low spots during your flooring project, our team can patch and level those areas before installation to create a smooth, stable foundation for your new floors. It's one of those behind-the-scenes steps that helps your flooring look great and perform the way it's designed to.
