It's time to start fall gardens! With the heat and humidity of summer, it hardly seems possible, doesn't it?! Cool season crops like lettuce, spinach, onions, beets, greens and carrots can be sown now. With the right conditions, fall carrots can overwinter in the ground for quite some time and stay tasty and crisp! Cabbage and broccoli transplants should be appearing at garden centers and Amish home sales very soon.

We will not be having our Plant Sale. We truly appreciate our customers and supporters and will miss putting on our event. We'll be back with bells on next Spring!

We apologize that due to the current situation we are unable to hold our annual Master Gardener Plant Sale at this point in time. The Extension grounds, including our greenhouse and facilities, are closed to the public; we may not sell at an off-campus site either. If anything changes after April 30, we'll make that known. Thanks for your understanding. Stay healthy, friends. 😊

Time to prune your Roses, if you haven’t done so already! Established Roses should be pruned no later than March here in the Mid-South. All dead branches should be pruned out. Depending on your personal preference, you can lightly prune (less than one-third of the plant is thinned out) increasing the number of short-stemmed flowers that will be produced, moderately prune (five to 12 canes cut to 18 to 24 inches) making a larger bush, or severely prune (cut to leave three or four canes, 6 to 10 inches high) producing fewer but larger blooms. Make sure to use pruners cleaned with 10% Bleach Water, & clean them between rose bushes to prevent spreading any disease. And don’t prune in the rain! Tomorrow & Saturday should be sunny, a good time to prune Roses!
‘Easy Does It’ Floribunda Rose is shown.
