Spring is in the air - and there are lots to do to get ready!!!

Updates:

-We moved to Lebanon, TN in December of 2019 - purchasing a house with 7 acres. Mostly cleared land and some woods. We added a pole barn for storage.

-We are slowly remodeling parts of the house as time goes on. (New windows, paint, MIL suite). We have many remodeling projects in the works. Hopefully a new kitchen!!

-We are going to raise 50 meat birds and 25 egg layers. In order to get ready, we need to finish designing a coop and building it. Stay tuned for pictures.

-A new purchase for us is a Harvest Right Freeze Dryer. We have just begun the learning process. Our goal is to make long term food storage. With prices skyrocketing and food inventory down, we would like to feel more prepared for our family.

-Canning of food is also something we are learning for food preservation. We have been buying shares of beef and would like to have more stocked, ready to go meals.

-We are about to plant some fruit trees and bushes soon. We cannot wait to be able to eat more off of our land.

-Slowly we are getting back to composting. We have started small with a tumbler - but will start a larger compost pile this summer.

-Gardening this year will be minimal - to include tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and squash.

-Our Aquaponics system is no longer running. At this time we do not have any plans to build another system. We do imagine that at some point we would like a small system, to teach others how the system works.

-Last year we adopted 2 new kittens. We now have 3 cats and 1 dog. The cats have been awesome in keeping our mice and moles down to a minimum.

Processed our first meat birds. We got 22 birds. Average of 6 pounds. Lots of bone broth. Our chickens were thanked and appreciated for feeding our family. They lived a good life cage free - eating grass and bugs. Our children know understand better where food comes from. ❤️❤️
