We started our homesteading journey together in 2024. We nurture a fruit orchard of apples, citrus, peaches and nuts, a garden of fruits, berries, vegetables, herbs and flowers and a few flocks of water fowl. We work toge

ther to expand our growing farm in our off hours from our full time jobs. Alyssa is also an artist who enjoys all things creative, but mainly focuses on pottery, painting, and textile crafts like sewing and crochet. Tom loves to game, DIY, and engineer sustainable systems for raising animals and gardening, harvesting his own materials and forging new tools. Tom is the builder, and Alyssa makes it pretty. Together we hope to one day become more self-sufficient by growing and raising our own food, wool for textiles and so much more.

The gosling is here! I repeat the gosling is here! No pictures yet but it hatched this evening! I'll try to snag one tomorrow if Maggie and Georgia let me.

Georgia and Maggie's hard work brooding is finally paying off today! We have one gosling hatching as we speak. The baby has pipped and should be here soon.

Good job girls! Team work makes the dream work I guess. 😅 It's the first gosling to hatch on the homestead! Cindy should have her own batch of ducklings in a couple weeks too.

We have some new additions to the homestead. This little one is Butter Bean. It was all by itself at Tractor Supply because it arrived kind of sickly so they quarantined it. By the time it was feeling better all of the other ducks in the batch had sold so this wonderful lady at TS asked us if we could take it. We'd been in several weeks in a row looking for water fowl and even though we weren't looking for Pekins, I couldn't say no. You could hear it crying for its flock throughout the store. So we took it in. Beansie napped with me on the couch and came to work with me in a little pouch until we could get it some friends. Butter Bean is living its best ducky life spending time with its flock while I'm at work and going with us on errands around town. And of course we still take naps together on the weekends. It's voice started to change this week so we'll soon know if Beansie is a boy or a girl. Stay tuned!

Good morning! My cypress vine is in full bloom and it is gorgeous. Look at this little genetic mutation! A white flower popped up on a row of red ones. Nature is so cool.

Look at this beautiful Golden Orb Weaver Spider! We have these visitors every fall and I love to watch them spin their webs. I know most people are terrified of them and that's understandable: they are pretty big spiders! But I find them to be pretty great pest control around the property. They're also pretty courteous spiders in my opinion. Unlike our other orb weaver visitors that leave their webs spanning across our walk ways so that I have to get a face full of tickling, sticky web every time, the Golden Orb Weavers tend to make theirs in out of the way places and bounce to warn you they're there if you get too close. That's why this is the coolest bug on the homestead this Sunday!

Pippin is getting some extra love and care from goose mom right now. We're giving him an extra dinner (like the little hobbit goose he is) to try to get his weight up. He's consistently been the smallest of the new geese in the flock so we're hoping this extra meal time with starter feed will help.

After watching him at lunch time with the other birds, we've learned not only is he a slow eater, but he is just too sweet to keep up with the other birds who will knock each other away to gobble as much food as quickly as possible. After he eats, we have a bit of snuggle time on the couch before he joins the others in the hutch.
