Does the extreme Texas drought scare anyone else? With the heat and the lack of water, I’m committing to planting plants that will endure the heat and drought. This weekend I planted three plumbago auriculatas (Cape Plumbago). This showy but hardy plant is native to South Africa but it does well in our climate.

The first time I heard about rock stacking I was writing an article on the Earth Fest festival in Llano, TX. Rock Stacking is one of the competitions at this springtime festival.

Rocks are EVERYWHERE on our property! Dig anywhere in my garden and you’ll hit one. Today as I was planting some things, I gathered all of the rocks I uncovered and started stacking.

Viola! Here is my rendition of eock stacking.

We had a nice spring this year in South Texas and I was able to get plants in early! My tomato plants definitely benefited from it and they are loaded with flowers and some fruit! I just can’t get too righteous about any of this—because when that heat turns back on and the bugs come calling, garden life will be more warfare than pastoral musings.
