As the freezing temps continue (and worsen) in our area, our friends and clients are on our minds. We hope you are all safe and warm! Posted below are some ways to protect your homes, and yourselves, during this season of BRRRRRR!!
To protect your home during freezing temperatures, maintain a consistent thermostat setting (at least 65F), allow faucets to drip, and keep kitchen/bathroom cabinet doors open. Insulate exposed pipes in unheated areas, disconnect hoses, cover outdoor spigots, and know the location of your main water shutoff valve.
Essential Plumbing and Heat Protection
Drip Faucets: Let both hot and cold faucets drip slowly, especially those on exterior walls, to keep water moving and prevent freezing.
Cabinet Doors: Open kitchen and bathroom cabinets to allow warm air to reach pipes located inside.
Insulate Pipes: Wrap exposed pipes in unheated areas (attics, basements, crawl spaces) with insulation.Keep Heat Constant: Maintain a minimum of 55F to 65F in the home, even if you are away, to prevent pipes in walls from freezing.
Turn Off Water: If you lose power or leave for an extended time, turn off the main water valve and drain the system.
