It is that time everyone is wanting to clean up the yard, garden, and landscape areas. Tracking w**ds is the first step in controlling them. So here are a few tips to get you started.

Make a List and map the w**ds on your property. This will help on determining the location and what you are dealing with. You want to eliminate as much of your w**ds as possible. As I said “as much as possible”, because w**ds are like a hair cut, you have to constantly maintain to look beautiful.

First you need to kill the w**ds that has been established. This does not mean you will not get new w**ds, LOL. This is why W**d and Feed Fertilizer is required. You want a thick lawn so it needs the vitamins like your body needs (thus the fertilize).

Steps to a thick lawn
1. don't cut grass to short. You will be wasting your money away with the product you bought. The openings make it easy for seed to float in and germinate (established root).
2. Fertilizer ? Why, because it will have a better root system to combat with foot traffic, other stresses like drought, mowing and weather extremes. 4 times a year they say is the best however I do suggest to do at least twice.
1. Early Spring (above 40 degrees - Feb-March,). At this time you should use Prevention for Crabgrass and Feed Lawn
2. Spring (March-April this is 6 weeks after the first w**d & Feed) W**d and Feed - Prevent germination of dandelions and Clover to seed. Plus Feed the lawn at the same time. Remember this is a prevention of need w**d for dandelions, you still need to kill the dandelions that already been rooted (established).

How the w**d spreads all help to determine the best control methods for that particular w**d.
Use an old calendar and list what time of the year:
Flowers are observed (easy to see and identify).
Seeds germinate or dormant plants start to regrow.
W**ds switch from vegetative growth (new growth) to reproductive growth (bolting and pre-bloom to full bloom).

What’s popping up in my YARD? – “That little purple flower” Henbit is a winter annual broadleaf with kidney-shaped leaves, opposite arranged, with rounded teeth on the leaf margin. The upper leaf surrounds the stem. It really likes disturbed, moist areas in turf and landscape beds.

Roundup for lawns is a a great multi-use selective w**d killer. It has a wide temperature range-- 40 degrees F up to 90 degrees F and can kill and control almost all of our problem w**ds we have in our area.

Create or freshen up the edges this spring. This makes a crisp line that reflects the importance of your garden. You need to define a line again between the two to help keep the mulch or rock contained.

When thinking about “Spring Cleaning” you may look at jobs not what you like to tackle (jobs rarely done). Not just used for computers, compressed air or air duster is a pressurized blast of air. Lets see what else can be used for.

In the house
1. The bag-less vacuum cleaner (how do you clean?)
2. Lampshades (You would be amazed by how much dust they collect)
3. Baseboard registers (those metal fins --- ughhhh)
4. keepsakes that are on display
5. Coffee grinders (just be careful – this can be messy, flying)

Your Vehicle
6. Center console or Dash in your vehicle (In stead of retrieved a vacuum or dust cloth)

Time is almost here to start thinking about the garden and yard.

Landscape Fabric available here in our store now! Did you know an inexpensive w**d-blocking cloth can help block the w**ds in your garden called, old newspapers. Just cover the newspapers with dirt, mulch, and grass clippings to keep them in place. The newspapers will smother out the w**ds beneath them. You can get the mulch here too at your local Nuts and Bolts store.

Note: don't have newspapers, get your subscription from the local newspaper in your home town or county. Doing this you can get your local news and help out local business.

Protect your lawn from to much water. Some of us in our area have low spots that the lawn floods time to time. Do a bit of digging in a sunken area. Fill this with perennial plants. The flow will go towards that part of the garden. This is a win, win situation.
