We’ll be heading out of town on June 20th for a much-needed summer vacation ( here we come!), and Root 11 will be closed until the 28th while we’re away. We have tons of beautiful plants ready for their forever homes and a spring clearance sale going on, so be sure to order soon. Last day of pickups will be June 19th.

Did a little seed collecting this morning. This spot is a dry, sandy/rocky, calcareous slope and has some unusual native plants, some of which I was thrilled to see in person— especially the overly floriferous Matelea!

1-2. Limerock Milkvine (Matelea obliqua)
3. Fragrant Sumac (Rhus aromatica)
4-5. Narrowleaf Vervain (Verbena simplex)

If you’ve ever wanted to visit our nursery, then you’ll be happy to hear that you can now schedule a time to do just that! We’re excited to invite you to come see what we’re growing and learn about the plants that might perform best in your landscape.

There’s a lot to native plants, and it can be overwhelming when you’re just starting out. While we love discussing the ins and outs during our pop up sales, not everyone can make the sales, and there’s a lot going on during those events. We’re looking forward to providing another opportunity for people ask questions and to help them select the right plants. Schedule an appointment through our website and come see us!

Odin, Loki, and Freyja enjoyed the heat and sun last week (they love hanging out in the nursery), but unlike me, they did not appreciate all this recent rain. Thankfully the rain brought in slightly cooler weather and softer soils. These milder temps make it a great time for planting as it reduces stress on new transplants. This will be a great weekend to be out in the yard planting some new natives!

Hopkins Green was where we had our first sale, fall of 2024, and it’s a sale I look forward to twice a year. Thank you, Lexington— and beyond!— for stopping by and supporting us! A special thanks to our pals at VNPS, , and Friends of Brushy Hills for joining us to make it a real community event. While in-person sales won’t occur quite as frequently over the summer, we do have a few lined up, so stay tuned. In the meantime, our online store is open for local pickup, and we still have lots of new plants that will be ready in the coming weeks. Thanks again for making this a wonderful spring season! 🌱

Happy Mother’s Day to all the beautiful moms out there! Root 11 simply wouldn’t be what it is without my own mom, whose love and support are immeasurable. There are so many ups and downs in owning a business AND growing plants, and I’m so grateful to have her cheering me on through all of it. ❤️❤️
