Wish I could tell ya'll I had a huge garden planted this season. While I did plant a row of purple hull, and threw down some carrot and raddish seeds to grow things I don't even need to water right now. Truthfully, I am not planting seeds to harvest for food at the moment. If I do I will let you know whats growing and will share photos. Right now my garden looks abandoned except for those things that come back on their own. Here are several pictures of those to keep you going.

For now the grass is tall, I did move the pomagranate while it was yet sleeping, I forgot about that ๐Ÿค” and there are sunflowers from the scratch I throw out for the girls that are popping up like weeds!

I didn't make a big deal about it because I want her family to have privacy but mothers closest friend passed away 1 year and almost 5 months ago. My aunt Edy. In short I will tell you this, her passing hit hard and it made me want to plant a different sort of seed. I will still post, and share because I appreciate all of you who have been ever so patient and have come back to see what is growing. I can not thank you enough for your presence in my life and on this page, but this past year has been one of making memories with mother dear and my children and grands.

These meaty grilled king oyster mushrooms are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with a delicious flavour from the marinade.

Now that everyone is starting to spend more time outdoors in their garden, I hope you can take a moment to get acquainted with the anatomy of a firefly so you don't mistake it for boxelder beetles.
While they are rarely seen anymore, when you live in an area that doesn't have a lot of light pollution you may come across them.
Here is a link to some information on them that may help you.

Although I have always tried to treat my pets and animals naturally, I started using oral flea and tick meds the second year I moved to Liberty because of the closeness to the water and woods, fleas seem to be something that gets worse here. In the city of Houston, all I would do to prevent fleas way spread out a layer of cedarcide on my lawn, and keep the dog bathed every couple weeks and rinse his coat with lemon juice, rinse again then, cedar oil, and citronella with a smidgen of coconut oil in my hands and rubbed it into his coat as thoroughlyas I could. Always did the trick! Normally, since I moved here, I would go to the vet in the start of spring to get a one month dose of cradelio and that was it for the year, just the one dose, no more. The rest of the year I would do the bi-weekly baths a little essential oil and that's it. This past March I went to my normal routine and in the weeks that followed I began to notice Ody being in a state of confusion. I wasn't sure why, I never made the connection until now. I won't be doing that again! Even though I would only get a one month dose, I feel it's just too risky for me now that I understand what was happening!๐Ÿฅน My poor boy suffered, and could have died!!! He is much better now, the affects lasted a couple weeks.
When I noticed him seemingly restless I began to add chamomile tea to his water to calm him because I thought it was anxiety, and a couple weeks after the cradelio I did the usual pumpkin (and seed) food prep I do for gut health and natural deworming. I make a mix of pumpkin w/seeds pureed with fresh boiled turkey, cooked with chamomile, herbs, garlic chia seeds, lentils and rice and I feed him that mixture once a day over a few days time. I am assuming it must have helped him get past the toxic drug situation because he went back to normal after that period

Today we are celebrating a recent milestone of our fur baby Ody, after an entire year of simply being a spectator of our ladies from a distance we decided last week to begin to give him the opportunity to bond with them face to face (or face to tail feathers in some cases๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ) because he is always by my side when I'm outdoors, it's been hard on him to be inside while all the excitement is happening around the hens. We are happy to report, he did a splendid job and the hens scarcely noticed him because he was such a gentleman!

Another milestone we are celebrating this week is the reclamation of our garden from the weeds! Well, at least one half so far, but progress is progress! This year we are changing things up a bit with our beds and I am also starting to incorporate the composted soil of the henhouse run as a fertilizer for our veg garden. Mr has been helping me a great deal to gather the supplies I need to put together the fertilizer which consists of the sifted chicken run bedding, wood ash, alfalfa pellets and a few other things.

It has been a dream of mine to have a self sufficient gardening lifestyle here on our little homestead and I am thankful that, even though he is still in recovery from back surgery, my husband is doing what he can to support me in my goals and helping me to realize this dream of mine. ๐Ÿฅฐ

We thank you for sharing in our joy and following our progress as we grow! Have a blessed Monday everyone!
