Looking for a larger shrub or small tree to add bold color and texture to your landscape? We love recommending the Smoke Tree! This versatile plant can be grown as a large shrub or pruned into a beautiful tree form.

We currently carry two stunning varieties: Golden Spirit and Royal Purple. The Royal Purple grows approximately 10-15 ft tall, while the more compact Golden Spirit typically reaches around 8 ft. Both offer striking foliage color and produce airy spring-to-summer blooms that create the soft, smoky effect the tree is known for. These unique blooms give the appearance of clouds of smoke floating above the branches - making the Smoke Tree a true standout in any landscape!

Let’s talk about some of the larger-growing Magnolia varieties that truly make a statement in the landscape. 🌸

Starting strong with Lois and Galaxy, both reaching 30+ feet tall at maturity. Lois is a deciduous Magnolia featuring stunning yellow blooms, while Galaxy puts on a spectacular spring show with deep pink to purple flowers.

Next up are Gold Star, Sunsation, and Virginia Moonglow — beautiful cultivars that typically grow between 15–30 feet tall. These varieties produce elegant yellow to creamy white blooms that brighten the garden each spring. Virginia Moonglow also stands out as the only evergreen variety in this group, offering year-round foliage and beauty.

Back today with more magnolia magic - featuring the classic beauty of the Southern Magnolia!

Here at Fertile Grounds, we currently have two standout Southern Magnolia cultivars in stock: the Kay Parris Southern Magnolia and the Teddy Bear Southern Magnolia.

The Kay Parris Magnolia is a fast-growing variety that reaches approximately 15-30 ft tall at maturity. The Teddy Bear Magnolia is also fast growing reaching 15-20 ft tall. Each of these varieties offer a compact option for smaller landscapes while still capturing the timeless elegance, glossy evergreen foliage, and fragrant blooms that make Southern Magnolias a landscape favorite!
