Spike is literally withering away before our eyes. When dogs are struggling in the shelter, they tend to make it obvious. They throw themselves against their kennel doors or frantically bark as soon as a human is in sight. Spike, however, is suffering in silence. In the almost 3 months he’s been living in the shelter, he’s dropped a lot of weight from the stress of kennel life and everyone is noticing it. Each day he seems a little thinner from the emotional wear of 23 hours a day confined in his kennel. He’s a dream when he’s outside with us for those 15 to 30 minutes each day. We love seeing his big smile as he takes in some sunshine. But recently, he’s been reluctant to go back inside. His smile fades away and he stops and looks up at us with sad eyes. “Do I have to?” he seems to ask, dreading another night all alone behind bars. We can’t let Spike slip through the cracks. Please share, or message our page to meet him, before he fades away and we lose that beautiful smile of his forever.
