Hardest part about this wonderful Whole Grain Brownie recipe? It’s not finding the white whole wheat flour, grown in western Kansas and sold right here at White’s. It’s not the smooth ganache frosting, a delicately rich marriage of half and half and fair trade bittersweet chocolate, soon to be slathered on these brownies.

Nope - neither of those.

It’s resisting the temptation to eat all the brownie scraps around the cut hearts. Now, that’s hard! And since we’re still 6 days away from Lent, I’m probably not gonna try very hard.

You shouldn’t try either! Just grab your gal pals and come on downtown to the Galentines Day Walk tomorrow. And, of course, stop by the Courtyard for these and other irresistible treats from Three Friends Baking!

We (Three Friends) hold these truths to be self-evident…
1. That there is a disturbing absence of light in December
2. That a brightly-lit Christmas tree and a good Spotify playlist can help mitigate the darkness
AND
3. There should NEVER be a shortage of holiday cookies!

The calendar will soon take care of the light, and you’re on your own for the tree and the playlist.
But Three Friends Baking has you covered like a blanket for the holiday cookies!!

For a mere $25, we offer you 5 each of 6 of our favorite Christmas cookies, festively tied up in a gift-worthy box. That’s 30 cookies, all baked by certified Moms, Grandmas, and one soon-to-be Great Grandma. You can’t beat this deal!

Order below by December 13 and pickup on the front porch at 321 N. Main on December 20, after 9 a.m.

OR for an additional $5, Grandma Jayne will deliver them to the Lindsborg porch(es) of your choice in her shiny red Honda sleigh.

Ho ho ho! Sign up soon - when we run out of boxes we’re done!

It’s a Blue Ribbon Day at the Three Friends Baking table at the Lindsborg Farmers Market! Four bona fide blue ribbon winners from the Kansas State Fair (Jayne’s Boiled Cider Donuts, Cheddar Pepper Scallion Sourdough, Murphy Honey Wheat, and Whole Grain Banana Bread), and one that surely would have won a blue ribbon (Sharon’s Best-Ever Baklava) if only it had been entered!

But you be the judge - stop by and see us tomorrow morning!

P.S. In the event of persistent rain, look for us on the porch at 321 N. Main.

Just a reminder - Three Friends Baking will be on hiatus from the Lindsborg Farmers Market until September 20.

That doesn’t mean we’re not baking, however, and it doesn’t mean we can’t make something special for YOU! Please feel free to reach out to any one of us (on this page, or via Facebook Messenger) for sourdough, cinnamon rolls, cookies, focaccia - or whatever else you may need.

And then we’ll see you again in September!

Way too hot to bake? No worries! We baked so you don’t have to!

And we’ve got a little of everything.

Several kinds of sourdough, including focaccia in two sizes, red pepper/cheddar/scallion boules, sandwich loaves and more.
Snickerdoodle cookies
Peach-blueberry muffins with a drizzle of vanilla frosting
Swedish Rye and Murphy Honey Wheat bread
And a LOT of scones - all featuring fresh fruit! Strawberry Cream Cheese, Peach Cream Cheese, and Triple Citrus

We’ll be gone for the next several weeks, so better come see us this week at the Lindsborg Farmers Market and stock up!

P.S. We honor our Sourdough Sister, Taylor Swift, with 12 items this week, in honor of the 12 tracks on her new album, The Life of a Showgirl. If we can find any of her recipes, we’ll honor her that way too!

When you bring home 50+ pounds of flour (and yet another whole grain cookbook) from your summer vacation, you feel a certain amount of pressure to produce something. Hopefully, something good and new.

Hence, Jayne has three new whole grain breads for the Lindsborg Farmers Market this week! Caraway Rye, made with Big Sky Rye flour from Montana, is a great alternative when Swedish Rye is bit too sweet. Lemon Poppy Seed bread, it turns out, is just as delightful made with golden whole wheat, especially when topped with a tart lemon glaze. And Rosemary Cheddar Checkerboard Loaf is brimming with fresh herb flavor and whole grain goodness. (Also on the table will be Classic White Sourdough and Crunchy Granola.)

For her part, Sharon’s bringing her famous Tea Ring Rusks, Oatmeal Scotchies, and chocolate chip cookies. Her rusks are seriously habit-forming, and we have it on good authority that the Scotchies are Kirsten Bruce’s favorite cookies, so those are must-tries too. And who doesn’t love a good chocolate chip cookie?

See you Saturday morning at Swensson Park!

P.S. We’re missing you, Linda! ❤️

Cars and Carbs - it’s a winning combo, right? We think so!

Stop by the Three Friends Baking table at the Lindsborg Farmers Market at Swensson Park Saturday morning, and pick up a sweet or savory treat to munch on while you explore some of the coolest cars ever, at the Smoky Valley Classic Car Show! Choose from Frosted Peanut Butter Cookies, Lemon Ricotta Sourdough Cookies, Harvest Pumpkin Scones, Crunchy Nutty Granola, and Individual Sourdough Focaccias - all in easy-carry sizes.

Then circle back and pick up some sourdough boules (Chef John and Olive/Parmesan/Thyme) to enjoy later!

Who says you can’t have it all?

Only a few days left to find the perfect entry for the King Arthur Donut contest at the Kansas State Fair! For the Farmers Market this week I’m trying out glazed baked yeast donuts, lingonberry cake donuts, and frosted chocolate chip donuts. I also dreamed that I’d made dill pickle donuts, but, alas, I couldnt remember the recipe when I woke up, so I won’t be bringing those.

Sharon will be bringing Swedish Tea Rings, however, and my flower-loving neighbor and friend Kathy is bringing beautiful bouquets, grown pesticide-free at Landing View Acres in Hutchinson!

Stop by and see us Saturday morning at the Lindsborg Farmers Market.

07/11/2025

We should just call ourselves Three Friends Occasionally Baking, since we seem to be doing more traveling than baking these days.

This week Sharon’s in Colorado, and Jayne’s heading for Montana. Linda’s actually home - but buried in backyard apples and still patiently waiting for her new oven to be up and running.

Look for us to converge again at the Lindsborg Farmers Market on the 26th! Not sure what Sharon and Linda have in mind (wild guess here - maybe some apple treats from Linda?), but Jayne’s planning to bring donuts - lots of donuts. She’s hoping you’ll help her decide what to enter in King Arthur Flour’s new donut contest at the Kansas State Fair. Come ready to sample and vote!

Till then - stay cool, everyone. We look forward to seeing you - and each other - again soon!
