Meant to include these pics with last night’s Farmers Market post, which referenced Swedish Rye, but they were overlooked - possibly due to a massive pile of okra and a big jar of sourdough starter vying for my attention on the counter. The starter was fed, but the okra is still waiting.

You may think a Smorgas-style sandwich is fare more appropriate for Midsummers or Hyllningsfest, but I beg to differ! It’s a great choice for an August weekday in Kansas, when it’s too hot to stand in front of a stove, and garden produce is plentiful. I like my Smorgas simple, but you can dress yours up as much as you like.

Get a head start at the Three Friends Baking table, where I’ll have the perfect Swedish Rye. The very Scandinavian addition of strong coffee and buttermilk deepens the flavor and gives it a long shelf life.

I might even have a few cherry tomatoes for you!

We’re back at the Lindsborg Farmers Market this week - two out of three of us anyway! Who knew three old ladies could be so busy?!

After several weeks of traveling throughout the midwest, Sharon’s now home and baking her famous Swedish Tea Rings. She’ll also have Fresh Peach Scones, made with those wonderful Methodist church peaches!

As for me, Jayne, I’m bringing my favorite focaccia - I hope you’ll give it a try and find it’s your favorite too! I’ll also have Gluten Free Brownies, Sourdough Key Lime Ricotta Cookies and Swedish Rye Bread.

Stop by and see us. And feel free to order in advance!

Saturday, August 8 - 8 to 11 in Swensson Park

I’m sure there’s something out there that smells better than the Honey Wheat Sourdough loaves currently cooling on my countertop, but I’m not sure what it would be. Unless it’s the Cheddar/Pepper/Chive now baking, or Sharon’s Snickerdoodles and Swedish Tea Rings. Not to mention the Chef John Sourdough and Scones-of-the-Week in Linda Branch’s kitchen. An aroma-based tour of Lindsborg would have to include stops in our kitchens on Farmers Market Fridays!

Come by Three Friends Baking at the Lindsborg Farmers Market in Swensson Park Saturday morning (8:00 for our table) to see (and smell) all of these, plus Whole Grain Brownies and Cinnamon Pecan Granola!

Feel free to message below if you’d like to reserve something - sourdough tends to sell out quickly!

Okay, friends, put on your rubber boots and wade on over to Swensson Park Saturday morning for the Lindsborg Farmers Market! You’ll be rewarded for your efforts with a lovely array of baked goods at the Three Friends Baking tables.

Personally, I recommend starting with a bag of Mini Sourdough English Muffins, which you can enjoy toasted, with a little jam and a steaming cup of coffee, while gazing out your kitchen window at the swamp that used to be your backyard. No one will think less of you for eating the whole bag yourself (they’re mini, after all), but you might want to pace yourself so as to fully enjoy your sandwich on Linda Branch’s famous Chef John Sourdough for lunch. Later, if you feel like making a salad and/or a savory soup for supper, you’ll find it greatly enhanced by a generous slice of Jayne Norlin’s Big & Bubbly Rosemary Focaccia, or Linda’s amazing Sourdough French Bread. Finally, after a late night snack of King Arthur Flour’s Best Chocolate Chip Cookies, you can drift off to sleep with visions of Jayne’s daughter Rachel Norlin Chaput’s granola for Sunday morning breakfast.

See, now, don’t you feel better with all those mealtime plans set in motion, just by putting on your galoshes?

And now I must excuse myself. I forgot about the sourdough hamburger buns, and I don’t think they’re going to bake themselves.

See you Saturday morning!

P.S. Market starts at 7:30, but don’t look for us before 8!

Hardest part about this wonderful Whole Grain Brownie recipe? It’s not finding the white whole wheat flour, grown in western Kansas and sold right here at White’s. It’s not the smooth ganache frosting, a delicately rich marriage of half and half and fair trade bittersweet chocolate, soon to be slathered on these brownies.

Nope - neither of those.

It’s resisting the temptation to eat all the brownie scraps around the cut hearts. Now, that’s hard! And since we’re still 6 days away from Lent, I’m probably not gonna try very hard.

You shouldn’t try either! Just grab your gal pals and come on downtown to the Galentines Day Walk tomorrow. And, of course, stop by the Courtyard for these and other irresistible treats from Three Friends Baking!

We (Three Friends) hold these truths to be self-evident…
1. That there is a disturbing absence of light in December
2. That a brightly-lit Christmas tree and a good Spotify playlist can help mitigate the darkness
AND
3. There should NEVER be a shortage of holiday cookies!

The calendar will soon take care of the light, and you’re on your own for the tree and the playlist.
But Three Friends Baking has you covered like a blanket for the holiday cookies!!

For a mere $25, we offer you 5 each of 6 of our favorite Christmas cookies, festively tied up in a gift-worthy box. That’s 30 cookies, all baked by certified Moms, Grandmas, and one soon-to-be Great Grandma. You can’t beat this deal!

Order below by December 13 and pickup on the front porch at 321 N. Main on December 20, after 9 a.m.

OR for an additional $5, Grandma Jayne will deliver them to the Lindsborg porch(es) of your choice in her shiny red Honda sleigh.

Ho ho ho! Sign up soon - when we run out of boxes we’re done!
