Happy World Carnivorous Plant Day!

Today I will be donating 50% of total sales on crabcorescarnivores.com to support on his next trip to Africa in as part of his taxonomic work with carnivorous plants. I'm applying this retroactively to all the orders that have already been placed today, before this was announced.

I just restocked a large selection of plants. So if there's something you've been looking for be sure to check it out and support a good cause!

Yesterday I went to Gus Engeling WMA, managed by the , and I have to say I was very impressed with how the park has been taken care of. I was here in 2024 and these Sarracenia had nearly 40" pitchers trying to compete with the tall grasses. This area with Sarracenia was nigh unwalkable. Utricularia and Drosera nowhere to be found. The prescribed burn they did recently has this portion of the park looking amazing and vibrant.

The first time I went I could only find Sarracenia alata, Utricularia gibba, and Drosera capillaris.

This time around I found:
Drosera brevifolia
Drosera capillaris
Sarracenia alata
Utricularia cornuta
Utricularia gibba
Utricularia radiata
Utricularia subulata

I heard some turkeys (btw imagine how terrifying it would be to hear this sound from up in the trees if you never knew what a turkey was), saw a doe, and the unfriendly snake in the photos.

I was right on time for the Sarracenia flowers. Next year I'll come 2-3 weeks later, as the Utricularia and Drosera were barely flowering. It was a gorgeous, cloudy, 60°F day and I can't wait to go back.
