This time of year, I just realized,
Is my favorite.
Flowers are bursting forth everywhere
And the garden is ripe for harvest.
Inchelium red, soft neck garlic.
The wind blew them over early
The rain sped up the leaf decomposition
So harvest time was thrown off
But still, the heads are large
And pungent.
We plant early November
In compost amended soil.
Mulched heavily once leaves are up well
And then only monitor & water
Until the bountiful harvest.
I learned from a garlic grower online
To pull off the outer dirty leaf at harvest
Then let them cure
And save yourself hours
of tedious dry, dirty skin removal.
Itβs worked well for us for years
But I wonder if anyone has a different experience?
