FACT: 80% of all injuries for seniors occur in the bathroom!
The bathroom can be the most dangerous room in the house, especially for seniors. More serious falls and deaths occur in this room with its hard surfaces combined with slippery, wet conditions. When we reach the age when climbing into a traditional bathtub is no longer safe, it’s time to make safe bathing changes. When we are facing a physical limitation, safe and independent bathing is just no longer possible in a conventional bathroom. Changes are needed yet some hold back out of fear it will look like a "hospital" or it will be cost prohibitive. That is no longer the case with our systems.
A bathroom remodel can be as simple as the right accessories, including specialized grab bars to help make transferring safer and easier. Or it can mean a complete bathroom upgrade, with the end result looking stylish and up to date. In fact, it is estimated that 110% of the cost of a bathroom upgrade is recouped later on down the road in possible resale.
America’s 75 million aging adults soon will face decisions about where and how to live as they age. Current options for long-term care, including nursing homes and assisted-living facilities, are costly and require seniors to move from place to place. University of Missouri researchers have found that a new strategy for long-term care called Aging in Place is less expensive and provides better health outcomes.
