Caring for a nerve plant “Fittonia” one of the most dramatic plants that has ever lived in my home! 😅 🪴

Fittonia plants or the “fainting drama queen are beautiful tropical houseplants that have patterned leaves with pink, red, light green or white veins. These colorful patterns contrast well on the dark green leaves. Due to the intricate veined patterning, fittonias are also called nerve plants. The attraction of nerve plants is that they are easy to grow in the home and help to brighten up any room. However can be a little bit of a Karen. These plants are beautiful and are great for plant parents who are ready to figure out how plants work. As soon as you forget to water them, the leaves start drooping. They straighten up and bounce back about an hour after you do water them. Like I said DRAMA QUEEN!

Light:

Fittonia plants prefer bright, indirect light. Lower light can cause it to lose some of its vibrant color and growth will slow. Too much light can burn the leaves. So you’ll want to find a happy medium. Mine is located across the room from our office window and does amazing there.

Watering-
Fittonia plants love water and to be constantly moist, but not soggy. You can check to see if a fittonia is needing a drink by placing your finger in the soil up to your second knuckle. If the soil is dry give it a good watering. If you let your Fittonia dry out too much, it will let you know with limp leaves. However they revive themselves almost instantly with a good drink.

Humidity:
Average household humidity is acceptable, but your Fittonia will appreciate higher humidity levels. You can boost the humidity with frequent misting, placing a humidifier nearby, or using a pebble tray. Another way to increase relative humidity is to group several humidity-loving plants together in a small area, creating a micro-climate. My Fittonia plant is close to my essential oil diffuser and it thrives there.
Toxicity-
FIttonia are non-toxic making them pet and kid friendly.

Caring for a Golden Pothos!

Light

Golden Pothos , appreciate plenty of indirect sunlight, but if your home is on the dark side, that’s not an issue either. Golden pothos can handle just about any light conditions, though you may not see as much growth in a lower light setting.

These plants are tougher than they look! They can with stand being neglected. Making them perfect for new plant parents.

Water

If you tend to forget to water your plants you’ll love golden pothos! Let the soil dry out completely in between waterings, which means you’ll only be watering ever 1-2 weeks. When it’s time to give your plant a drink, just water until it starts to drain from the pot, then empty the drainage tray or put the whole pot in the sink to drain. When selecting a pot you will want to make sure there is a drain hole in the bottom of the pot to give the water a place to go so your plant doesn’t get the horrible issue of root rot. 😩

Fertilizer

Golden pothos love a mild fertilizer during the spring and summer. I just add a little Indoor Plant Food to my watering can each week when I water my golden pothos.

Temperature and humidity

Golden pothos thrive in typical room temperatures and don’t require much humidity. It will be happy whether you live in the desert or the tropics! They can live in a bathroom or on a shady shelf.

Pruning

Pothos plants, including golden pothos, tend to grow quickly, so you may find yourself pruning at some point to keep it under control. The vines can grow up to 10 feet long! If your golden pothos is getting a little big for your space, just trim the vines with clean scissors. Your plant won’t mind! For me once I trim my pothos I replant the trimmings in the same spot to make my pothos thicker!

And if you ever see brown or crispy dead leaves, just trim them off. Easy peasy!
