Architectural plans for the Long Beach Yacht Club’s modernization and expansion have been approved by the California Coastal Commission in a recent 10-1 vote. The state approval allows the club to move ahead with its new poolhouse and remodel of its main 21,000-square-foot clubhouse. The design by Michael Graves, headed by Architects Michael Kollin and Brian Husting, will increase the building’s total size to 41,000 square feet. The addition will include the replacement of its aging pool storage cabanas with a useable 20,000-square-foot poolhouse building complete with a new pool and deck, lobby and two multi-purpose rooms. Major renovations to the existing two-story clubhouse—built in the 1960’s—will include upgrading the dining areas, bar, lounge, kitchen, meeting rooms, library, offices, and terraces.

Thanks to the work of all project team members and consultants including project management by CREDE Group, EKA Consulting, landscape architect Graham Stanley & Associates, interior design by Rodrigo Vargas Design, MHP Inc. Structural Engineers, MEP engineers McParlane & Associates, JCA Civil Engineering, Aquatic Design Group, Lighting Design Alliance, Bowden Associates, Argento Graham - Green Building consultant, Associated Soils, and pre-construction efforts by Slater Builders. Special thanks to LBYC’s internal committee members for ensuring the programming requirements and community benefits balance the needs and serve the long-term goals of both the membership and the community.

“We’re excited to help create an inviting and efficient gathering place for club members, the boating community, and neighborhood/coastal groups,” stated Michael Kollin, Principal at Michael Graves’ LA studio. The revitalized club will provide a vibrant pathway to the water and bring a new era of excellence to this Long Beach landmark that has served the community for nearly 100 years. Construction is expected to begin by late summer 2026.

It’s a wrap! is in the books and what a great 3-day event it was for several members of our team to experience. From powerful MainStage speakers to wellness-focused masterclasses, we explored inspiring new ways to create possibilities in our lives, foster new ideas, and build partnerships. Michael Graves is proud to be a sponsor along with many others to support innovative leadership and fuel Pelotonia’s groundbreaking cancer research. Now Open! 📣 Construction is officially complete on the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess Parking Garage. The first phase of a major master planned project at the resort, the new 3-level cast-in-place structure blends with the adjacent resort hotel and provides parking for nearly 1,000 vehicles, valet spaces and golf carts.
Huge shout out to Kitchell project manager Gabe Reeves and the hard work of everyone on the team for meeting the schedule and creating an efficient and visually appealing valet/parking solution for guests and staff. Final touches on our rebranding efforts in our LA studio! Thanks to the teamwork of our design and support staff (Brian Husting and Maddie Edwards), our once plain gray wall now pops with the bright white 3D Michael Graves logo art. It was a bit of a process to hang but the stencil made it much easier (thanks Lenny!)

Great to meet and hang out with hospitality and gaming industry professionals at the BITAC Casino Resorts conference in Phoenix. Extra bonus with the event being held at the elegant Arizona Biltmore, a hotel built on the legacy of Frank Lloyd Wright’s architectural style. (Notice the cool design details?)

The 2+ day event is focused on relationship-building and learning more about innovative gaming and lodging products and services that can enhance the guest experience. Congrats to Team 3 – winners of the “Great PB&J Challenge” who assembled 848 meals for those in need. Special thanks to BITAC’s Rich Viola, Emily Melgar, J. Viola, Heather Cejovic, the stellar vendors, and the quality staff at the Biltmore!

The experience to read the road ahead. The ingenuity to keep it smooth.

WHO WE ARE For more than 20 years, Kollin Altomare Architects has designed and reimagined five- and four-star properties in over 25 states and four countries. Early on, we developed a knack for hospitality design, which evolved into a specialty—and now a growing reputation. But we’ve also made our mark in luxury residential, retail, and mixed-use.

We approach every project with the type of drive, accountability, attention to detail, and creativity you’d expect from a firm who has something to prove. Because we do. To our clients, of course. But also to ourselves.

With offices in Long Beach and Chicago, our talented and diverse staff of architects and designers has contributed to more than 120 skylines with projects spanning the East and West coasts, Hawaii, Mexico, the US Virgin Islands, Ireland and Argentina. We are proud to have been involved in the design and renovation of over 350 hospitality and leisure projects for an array of notable clients such as Fairmont, Four Seasons, Hilton, Hyatt, InterContinental, Langham, Loews Hotels, Marriott, Montage, Renaissance, The Ritz-Carlton, Sheraton, Strategic Hotels & Resorts, Viceroy, and Westin.

WHAT WE DO Beyond providing full service architecture, interior design and planning services, we create elegant, inspired projects. While we’ve built a reputation for turning unexpected challenges into creative opportunities, our acute attention to our clients’ needs is where our team truly shines. We listen, we translate, we adapt, and we deliver. Providing aesthetically pleasing solutions to genuine problems, and actually building them. Resulting in not only award-winning hotels, resorts, spas, residential, retail, dining and leisure destinations, but enduring partnerships with the people who hire us.
