I’ve been getting a lot of requests for helping unpack after the Marshall Fire in . Those that didn’t lose their homes still had horrible smoke damage that needed to be remediated, and personal items that had to be professionally cleaned. Here we are nine months after the fire, and some people are just starting to move back into their homes. After months of chaos, I’m honored to be helping my clients get back to a state of normalcy

Talk about narrow! This master closet was definitely a challenge but we were able to make it so much more functional. Now all scarves, belts, hats and purses are together and clearly labeled. Clothes are organized by type and are now all on velvet hangers. Seasonal clothes that are in rotation are in the bins on the floor. Is the closet still tiny? Absolutely. But at least now you can walk into it and see everything!

Check out this cute little !

To create as much space as possible we tossed bulky packaging, combined all of the kids snacks into one drawer, and stored overflow items in an extra mud-room cabinet. Using clear containers with labels helps everyone in the family know where things belong 🥨🥜🍪

Where do you store kids toys? If you have extra space in your home, creating a playroom can save your sanity. Having systems in place makes picking up easy, and kids are never too young to help with cleanup. In this playroom we kept things simple and left lots of floor space to play.

Pro-tip: Add photos to storage bins for kiddos who can’t read yet. This will help them know where toys belong 🚗🧸🚀⚽️

Why can’t every kitchen have this much storage?! Deep drawers allowed us to group like items and we even had a leftover cabinet that we made into bar storage. When deciding where items should be stored in your kitchen, think about where you use things. When you’re making cookies, where do you typically stand? That’s where your mixing bowls and measuring cups should be. When you’re prepping dinner, where do you cut vegetables? That’s where your cutting boards and knives should be. Also consider where your dishwasher is in relation to the dishes you use most often. To make your life easier, plates, bowls, and cups should live close-by so you aren’t traveling from one end of the kitchen to the other just to empty the dishwasher 🍽

This was a fun one! My eight year old client couldn’t even open the door to her closet anymore. One thing on the floor turned into fifty, so this closet was no longer functional. We started by getting everything off of the floor, which was mostly laundry. Once we could open the door, we took everything else out, found homes for all of the miscellaneous items, and viola! A closet that can actually be used. Adding labels to the drawers will help this kiddo remember where everything goes 👚👖👗

The more I get to organize for all of my amazing clients the more I love transforming pantries. It's the small, minute details that can set off a pantry. I've said it before but it's worth repeating. Labels and bins/containers save so much time and stress in the long run. Having systems like this in place help reduce clean up times while preparing meals or stocking up, so you can enjoy life and not scramble to find where something is or where it goes.

Why is kid artwork so hard to get rid of? So many people struggle with this, so here’s a few suggestions:

-Have a designated container for each kiddo’s creations. Once the container is full, some of the art needs to go before adding more.

-Take a photo of the artwork and get rid of the original.

-See below 😉

Do you really need all of those towels and sheet sets taking up valuable closet space? Are you like most people who have a few favorites and never touch the other ones that live in the back of your linen closet? Then it’s time to downsize! Keeping three towels per family member is usually plenty and allows you to stay on top of laundry. For sheets, this client decided to keep four sets for each bed; two flannel ones for winter, and two lightweight sets for summer. Pro-tip: when buying new sheets, look at the tag. Most sheet tags don’t say what size they are 🤦🏼‍♀️ If you’ve got different sized beds throughout your home, take a permanent marker and write the size on the tag. This will save you from many headaches in the future!
