For 31 years, the Booker family have called their house in Marshall home, and for that long, all they’ve wanted was to feel safe in it.
Mrs. Booker grew up on a farm with 10 siblings, where she learned the value of hard work early in life. She and Mr. Booker carried that same work ethic into raising their family, working diligently to help put their children through college and build a better future for them.
Now, after all those years of putting their family first, the Bookers needed a little help with their own home.
One of their biggest concerns was something many of us take for granted: taking a shower safely.
Their bathtub was so difficult to navigate that Mrs. Booker had to place a chair inside it just to sit while bathing. She worried about falling and simply wanted a bathroom where she could feel safe and comfortable.
Through Northeast Texas Habitat for Humanity's Home Repair Program, the Bookers' home received critical improvements:
✓ Replaced the leaking roof
✓ Replaced the bathtub with a walk-in shower
✓ Replaced the toilet
✓ Replaced the bathroom flooring
The goal wasn't to give the Bookers something extravagant. It was to give them something much more important: safety, comfort, and peace of mind in the home they've loved for more than three decades.
After a lifetime of working hard for their family, we're honored to help make home a little safer for the Bookers.
Because everyone deserves to feel safe at home.
