As trees grows, it provides shade and can make for a beautiful landscape feature. Unfortunately, to much shade can inhibit growth of grass in the lawn. Keeping your trees trimmed allows the tree to grow properly. In this specific example the tree had filled in, and light was not able to reach the ground preventing the grass from growing. The weak branches throughout the tree that received little sunlight were removed allowing more light through. Some larger limbs were removed as well for desired effect.
