🤔 When a professional organizer lives with a husband & boys, is it possible to get decluttered & organized & then stay that way?
Yes! Here’s how to start, even in the midst of gallons of testosterone
👉🏼 First, follow so you can find these tips again & get more organizing tricks & inspo
The younger your kids are when you start to declutter & get organized, the easier it’ll be when they get older. But if you have older kids, that doesn’t mean all hope is lost
1️⃣ Creating zones is clutch when it comes to getting your home organized & then keeping it that way. That means you don’t have batteries in 4 different places; they’re all together. Same for shoes, candles, lightbulbs, tape, board games, office supplies, etc.
Remember it this way 👉🏽 “Like items like each other.”
2️⃣ Telling & labeling: you can’t expect people (read: most males) to know what you want, especially how to stay organized, if you don’t tell them. So if you’re implementing a new organizational system in your pantry, tell your people. And then show them. So when you put one of them in charge of unloading groceries, they know exactly where the extra black beans go
Just because you start out w/everything perfectly organized doesn’t mean it’s going to stay that way. Sometimes shelves, bins, dividers, etc. need labels. This is great for littles learning to read, but it’s also great for adults of the male variety to remember where things belong 👀
3️⃣ Rinse & repeat. Don’t be discouraged if your new organizing system doesn’t work the 1st time. Or the 2nd. Or the 5th. People are creatures of habit & it’s hard to get on board w/something new, especially if it’s not their idea. So be patient with them & remember that repetition creates new habits
BONUS: Girl moms… I see you! I realize it’s not just dudes who have a hard time getting decluttered & organized. Sometimes it’s more about the personality, & girls can be sentimental & lean toward a little bit of hoarding
Implement the same strategies, stay patient, & remember this: God made us all different, but that doesn’t mean we can’t all be organized
