Only then can we claim that we’ve established the foundations for a successful design process. All too often in the business of construction, design-build firms operate as paper-based contractors with no actual in-house tradespeople of their own, instead employing outside subcontractors. At Home Front Build, we are exceedingly proud of the loyal team of framers and finishers, masons and plasterers, cabinet makers, hardware specialists, and tile setters we’ve assembled over the years. In addition to these highly skilled craftspeople, we’ve rounded out our team with intuitive and experienced architects and interior designers. Some content is great for social media. And some content is a reminder of time, of moments, and of the emotions that come with them.

This is both.

Corey’s rebuild: from the very first walk-through in February 2025 with Steve, permits approved 2026, all the way to grade beams, cement foundation, and wood panels now going up. A home rising and a full story unfolding one slide at a time.

Behind every stage our team showing up. Alfonso our safety and quality control manager keeping every detail in check. Martin our on-site construction supervisor running the build with precision. City plumbing and safety inspectors signing off every step of the way. And our cement crew doing the foundational work that makes everything above it possible.

Oh and a few geckos who want to be part of the team too. 😄🦎

This is what a rebuild looks like when everyone is all in. And we wouldn’t trade it for anything.

There is something powerful about having a piece of a tree living inside your home. Raw edge and bark intact. A direct connection to nature and a beautiful bridge between the character that was already here and the design we brought to it. This is wellness by design.

In January Goli received her permit to rebuild. The same home. The same design.

Steve opened a bottle of champagne at her desk. The team toasted together. And then she and her wife cut the ribbon and broke ground on the land that will become their home again.

Grade beams are in. The foundation is being laid. And the renders? They match exactly what was lost because some things are worth rebuilding exactly as they were.

Goli is our Director of Design. She helps our clients rebuild their homes every single day. And now it’s her turn.

The ornate iron gate. The terracotta steps edged in hand painted tile. The arched courtyard with its stone fountain. The teal French doors and the climbing roses framing a cozy outdoor dining nook.

Another of our Altadena fire rebuilds is one of our most custom and site specific projects. Head Architect Derek was out this week working alongside our concrete and framing subcontractors to make sure every outline, angle, and foundation excavation is correct before a single wall goes up.

This home was designed to face the Mountain View’s and when you build around a view like that, the geometry gets detailed fast. Every corner matters and every angle is intentional.

Steve heard a podcast about attic conversions and had some things to say. Spoiler: it’s not as easy as removing the heating ducts and calling it a day. We’ll need structural work, foundation requirements and reshaping the entire space. It’s absolutely doable and can be a beautiful expansion but it comes at a real cost. Know before you renovate.

Before the foundation. Before the framing. There’s this, grading day. The land gets shaped, leveled, and prepared so everything built above it has a strong and stable base to stand on.
