17th C. Spanish Baroque Library Table
Boasting an impressively long and narrow presence, this magnificent 17th-century table embodies the classic Castilian aesthetic with six beautifully turned vasiform legs, square block feet, and a low H-stretcher base.
Directly under the tabletop, the horizontal apron features a beautifully detailed, shallow-carved trim of repeating lunette/gadroon motifs that frames two drawer fronts adorned with heavy raised mouldings and hand-turned mushroom k***s. The heavy, large-scale solid walnut top lifts completely off the lighter base for transport, revealing a rare historical security feature: two tiny, fixed “secret” drawers hidden behind the front drawers, accessible only when the top is removed.
Showcasing a rich, amber patina, an ancient storied burn mark, a slight organic warp, and beautifully historic woodworm holes, this piece offers incredible character, history, and architectural presence as a statement console or library table.
Dimensions: 80.5”L x 26”D x 32”H
