There’s a different kind of beauty to Jinho Choi’s Black Celadon [Heuk-Chungja: 흑청자].

Compared to the quiet, refined elegance of traditional celadon [Chungja: 청자], Heuk Chungja feels more nuanced, earthier, and a little more unpredictable. The celadon glaze reveals subtle hints of blue-green against the black clay, while natural speckles from the iron in the clay give each piece its own character.

The slightly rough edges, where the texture of the black clay comes through, are just as compelling—as are the fine, almost hidden crackles in the glaze.

It’s these subtle variations that give Heuk Chungja its particular beauty.
