We all recognize the Eames Tandem Sling!
When Eero Saarinen was designing Dulles Airport (outside Washington, DC) in the early 1960s, he asked his longtime-friends Charles and Ray Eames to develop Modernist seating units that would complement the sleek architecture. The result was the minimalist Eames Tandem Sling, now found in airports and train stations around the world, and still in production largely unchanged sixty years later. Note also Saarinen's custom-designed ashtray units and sleek typeface on the signage. (Photo: Bathazar Korab circa 1962; Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division)
