What started as a simple drywall repair quickly revealed a much larger issue hidden behind the walls.

During demolition, we discovered extensive black mold, which led to a deeper inspection of the home. The mold had spread from the wall cavity beneath the kitchen cabinets and into the subfloor system. As we continued investigating, we uncovered significant termite damage that had been left untreated by previous homeowners.

We worked with the client to hire a remediation company to professionally remove the mold, allowing us to move forward with rebuilding the affected areas. The partition wall between the office and kitchen had suffered both mold and termite damage, requiring replacement of structural components. We rebuilt the load-bearing wall, removed and replaced damaged floor supports, installed new subflooring, and completed new flooring throughout the affected spaces.

The project also included new kitchen base cabinets, countertops, and sink installation. In the office, we replaced the subfloor, installed new carpet, and finished the space with new drywall.

Sometimes the biggest value we provide isn’t just the finished product—it’s uncovering problems before they become even more costly. We’re thankful we were able to help make this home safe, sound, and beautiful again.

I was recently hired by a friend to modernize a customer’s stairway opening with a durable, high-end look. This modern stairway guardrail was built and installed using red oak posts and rails, paired with sleek black metal balusters (which were protected during painting for a clean finish). This project focused on both beauty and structural strength, ensuring a safe and visually striking upgrade. Careful attention was given to making the base and handrail perfectly level from top to bottom.

With precise planning and ex*****on, each post was set plumb and true—creating a solid foundation that allowed the entire build to come together seamlessly. Let us know your thoughts, and give us a like and share!

We completed a full deck rebuild and stain project, enhancing both the safety and appearance of the space. The existing deck boards were removed and replaced due to rot, while the handrails were replaced for structural integrity and stability.

To reinforce the guardrails, we installed new 4x4 posts and balusters, ensuring the deck is both safe and compliant. We also addressed surface wear by sanding down splintered wood, creating a smooth finish.

The entire deck was thoroughly washed and prepped before applying a fresh stain, enhancing the natural beauty of the wood while providing long-lasting protection against the elements. With these upgrades, the deck is now rigid, secure, and built to safely support substantial weight for everyday use and gatherings.

I recently completed a smaller-scale project for a friend. Yes, that's right, here at Ark Carpentry, we can do both large and small-scale projects to fit your needs.

I had the opportunity to refinish an exterior storage cabinet for the same deck extension customer. As you can tell in the original picture, this was badly sun-damaged over the years. As a part of the restoration process, I added a UV-resistant protective coating to preserve the natural beauty of this cedar wood. I love how it turned out, and of course, the best part is that the customer loved it even more!

Another completed job with a happy customer. Got to replace their exterior door casing and trim. Their fluted pilaster had started to really rot out over the years of being in the elements. Suggested that instead of going with more wood that will rot out again, that we go the route of a synthetic type of trim. This way they won't have to worry much about the material rotting out again and it isn't that much more. I believe that it was absolutely worth it and I am very pleased with how it all turned out!

The customer wanted to paint it themselves, so enjoy the pics of the final product before paint! 😁

Summer is coming to a close here, but I’m so glad this project was finished just in time to enjoy the fall weather. A beloved friend commissioned me to add an extension to her deck, and she was overjoyed with the final outcome.

The customer wanted to use the lower segment as a storage area, but first, we had to ensure that little to no water would seep in. As seen in theses pictures, we created a system that would extend the life of this portion of the deck. We created a gutter system that would re-direct the flow of water away from the inside of the space and towards the ground. As usual, the Ark Carpentry way is to ensure we build something that is timeless, so of course, we added the necessary liners and membranes underneath this system. This served to create a dual-redundant system of protection so that, if any water passes through the guttering, it would meet another barrier. Eventually, it would either dry up or run down the proper lines for drainage.

This deck extension turned out great and we are quite proud of it. Looking forward to working with you on your next project!

Another major project in the books! This one had many challenging factors I had to overcome in order to fit the space just the way the customer wanted! They wanted more storage, so we made it larger-scale. They wanted an island that was mobile, so we put it on casters with brakes. They also wanted the island to be painted with a glossy, black finish, so of course, we decided to spray it. We needed to ensure that the countertops matched what the customer already had, and we found a way to incorporate some unique handles that accented the island well. I think we accomplished everything we set out to do!

Despite these challenges, the end result was just to the customer’s liking! And really, that is all I could ask for. It was a blessing to watch the customer begin to fill the cabinets with their own appliances and dishware.

Here’s a bit of before and after. To me, it was a complete night and day difference from what they used to have, to what is now in their kitchen! Much bigger for sure, but I feel that it really completes their space. Thanks for hiring me and giving Ark Carpentry a try!

Got to work with Redemption Construction to fix the framing of a vaulted ceiling that had a tree go through it. I inspected it for any other major damage, and thankfully, I didn't find any glaring issues with the structural components. Let's make sure to keep everything safe by covering them up and protecting them from all the dust and debris I'm about to create 😅

It's amazing that the tree didn't destroy those beautiful cabinets or do damage to appliances countertops! But most importantly, it didn't harm the homeowners who were in the kitchen and barely avoided the branches hitting all the way to the floor! 😫
