Keeping Louisville families comfortable for over 40 years
Project Heating & Cooling was incorporated in 1964 by Clarence Castleman and Louis Hettinger, with Clarence adding his sons Ron and Jim to the team shortly afterwards. Our beginnings were humble; our original location was in an old chicken coop just off Manslick Lane in Louisville’s south end. That didn’t last long, however, as we quickly grew and moved to the Industrial Park in Jeffersontown.
At the beginning, our company’s focus on was on residential and multifamily new construction, which is where the name “Project” came from. We thought that since the company was only doing construction projects, the name “Project Heating and Cooling” seemed like a good fit.
As the company began to grow, it needed someone to oversee the “service side” of the business. Ron quickly assumed all the responsibilities of running a service department and the demands of servicing all the new construction the company was doing. Jim Castleman began to handle the production aspect of the construction side of the business.
Project grew rapidly and by 1980 was one of the most respected HVAC companies in Louisville. On the residential side, we were installing between 800 and 1,000 single and multi-family homes per year. We then added a commercial construction division, along with engineers that designed commercial HVAC systems. The addition of commercial construction came with its own set of challenges, but nothing that we couldn’t handle. The addition of Terry Stewart to oversee the commercial design, estimating, and sales efforts began a long-term relationship with some of the most well-known Louisville architects, engineers and general contractors.
