Spring Larches

Did aquifer study - watercolor was with gouache on top in my sketchbook. The mountain out my front window is the inspiration and of course there is no shortage of larches here.
On late winter afternoons that hillside reflects a cobalt blue, and with an early snow one can see observe the maple, beech and larch glow in the waning light.

Since there are many larches here in the NEK of Vermont, and I am pleased by that, I am starting a new series, Larches on the Ledge. The terrain is quite mountainous and full of rock ledges and of course stone walls. I did larch studies yesterday and today in my sketch book...

Commissions for flowers, but this time I did them on regular white cold press water color paper. After painting on toned paper this is so refreshing, the colors are much more luminous as one would expect.
