🚨 Homeowners, please be careful when searching online for garage door repair. 🚨 This story is from Rochester, NY, but the same problem is happening in Lubbock and across Texas: fake or misleading garage door websites that use local phone numbers, paid ads, and professional-looking pages to make homeowners think they’re calling a trusted local company.
In many cases, homeowners don’t realize who they've called until someone shows up in an unmarked vehicle, gives an inflated repair quote, or pressures them into paying for work they may not actually need.
Before you book a repair, take a few extra minutes to verify who you’re calling:
✅ Look for a real local address
✅ Check the company’s name, reviews, and website carefully
✅ Be cautious with sponsored ads at the top of Google
✅ Ask who is coming to your home and what company they work for
✅ Be wary of vague call centers that won’t clearly say where they’re located
✅ Trust your gut if something feels off
Garage door repairs, especially spring repairs, can be dangerous and urgent. Unfortunately, that’s exactly why scammers target homeowners in these moments.
Our advice: choose a real local company with a known reputation in your community.
Stay alert and help spread the word.
A Chicago man is charged with setting up fake repair businesses with local phone numbers, and Investigative Reporter Berkeley Brean found the same scheme happening here.
