Simple Cottage Living

Simple Cottage Living Hi! I’m Melissa. I am a nester, home cooking enthusiast, and I love to garden. I have 11.4 acres and a clean slate to make dreams come true.

Hope you will join me on my journey to create the ultimate simple cottage lifestyle in my 520 sf Vermont home. I am a New England girl. I’ve always dreamed of a life in a small country cottage with plenty of space away from the busy world. That dream is coming true! I bought a 520 square foot ranch-style cottage in Vermont near a lake! I have 11.4 acres and although mostly hilly there is tons of r

oom for gardens, animals, and more. I grew up in a small Massachusetts town. I raised my daughter there until her sophomore year of high school. We set off on a new adventure and moved to a fun seacoast city in New Hampshire. After she graduated from college she hit the road as a travel nurse. I began searching for my next best life. All of that leads me to a little dirt road in a quaint Vermont ski town. Now I don’t ski but every other part of Vermont-life is exciting to me. Let the adventure begin! I am a nester by nature. Some of my friends pick on me for this but also love being invited to a good home-cooked Sunday dinner. My daughter – who is a travel nurse – loves the feeling of home I can create no matter where we are. I love simple, curated decor, and have a fresh start planned for this little cottage. I have left most of my former possessions behind so I’ll have a clean slate to work with. I can’t wait to share all of this journey with you. My hope is you will share with friends and family who might like this kind of life. A FEW FUN FACTS ABOUT ME:

I stopped dying my hair a couple of years ago and love the freedom of it. I learned to surf when I was 36. I still own a 9’6″ surfboard I hope to use more often over the coming years. I was the backup singer and percussionist in a roots-reggae band for 5 years. I have traveled out of the country more than in but I hate traveling away from home. I have been to Aruba, Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, England, Scotland, France, and Nicaragua.

Progress peek inside my little cottage kitchen ✨ I’ve finally cleared off the counters and gave these cabinets and walls a fresh coat of Simply White by Behr just to create a blank canvas… but now I need your help!

What cabinet color would you choose in this space?
Would you go soft and creamy, earthy and grounded, or maybe a moody statement?

Also… hardware? Or none?
Brass, matte black, pewter, wood?

Drop your suggestions in the comments or send me a DM — I’d love to hear your ideas!
This kitchen has come a long way and I’m so excited to make it beautiful AND functional. 🛠️💛

From a dark corduroy mistake to a bright cozy sofa of my dreams. This story is more than about a couch - it is about making your home your sanctuary, one thoughtful choice at a time.

I sold the old one, saved, intentionally and now this soft linen beauty feels like a dream. I always envisioned a single cushion, down filled piece in this space. I couldn’t be more pleased.

Today I looked through my fabric bin. I sewed a couple of reversible pillow covers and used down pillow inserts I already had to dress things up a bit. I have a minimal single income budget, but always seem to find a way to make somethin’ outta nothin’ even more beautiful.

Recently, I ran into an acquaintance that I hadn’t seen in quite some time. She asked why I hadn’t posted anything lately, said she was looking forward to seeing more updates about the cottage. I hope to get back to writing on the blog soon. I’ve been cataloging pictures and videos along the way and have lots to show you. Say tuned! You can follow me here, on FB, YouTube and TikTok.
