That's not snow, it's Cooley Spruce Adelgid! 🐛
The feeding activity of this arthropod pest can result in severe damage to ornamental trees and may also cause the formation of cone-like galls on developing twigs, which can hinder growth and predispose the tree to further infestations from other pests or diseases.
Galls from this insect will be one 1-3" long, occurring primarily at the tip of the twig. The Cooley Spruce Adelgid primarily targets Blue, Engelmann, and Sitka Spruce as well as Douglas Fir trees.
