W**d or Medicine?
That tall, scrappy plant with the small daisy-like flowers (white to pale pink rays around a yellow center) and hairy, branching stems that shows up in fields, roadsides, and garden edges? Most folks call it fleabane (usually Philadelphia or Daisy Fleabane) and pull it as a w**d. But this tough native has been used for generations as a gentle astringent and backyard remedy.
Fleabane is known for its drying, tightening properties — traditionally used to help with minor bleeding, diarrhea, digestive upset, and as a mild diuretic. Some folks use it for skin washes or as a poultice for irritations. The young leaves are edible (though a bit bitter and resinous), and the whole plant was historically burned or hung to repel fleas and insects.
How I use it:

• Tea: Steep the dried leaves and flowers for a mild astringent tea to support digestion or as a gentle tonic.
• Skin / First aid: Make a strong tea or poultice for minor cuts, rashes, or bug bites to help dry things out and calm irritation.
• Garden bonus: It attracts pollinators and can act as a living mulch before it gets tall.
Always harvest from clean, unsprayed areas and wash well. It’s generally considered safe in moderation, but like most wild plants, start small and check with a knowledgeable herbalist if you’re using it medicinally.
What about you? Do you yank fleabane out of the garden, or have you tried it for tea, poultices, or as a bug repellent? Share your experiences below 👇

Baby chick didn’t make it 😢😭

Tonight was hard..
My husband went to put the chicks to bed and told me there was a dead one. I came and got him, and he looked dead. No movement, cold and stiff. When I picked him up there was a barely perceptible move of his beak. It gave me hope. I started stimulating his body, trying to see if I can repeat that, with no luck. I was determined to save him. I gently pressed on his chest, for CPR, and gave him 3 breaths. I saw his chest rise and fall. I heard the faintest peep. He was still cold and not moving. I grabbed a ziplock bag and placed him inside, and put it on a bowl of very warm water. I gave him some sugar water for electrolytes, and continued to stimulate him. He started chirping. We are now doing skin to skin, and he is constantly chirping, but very flaccid, and his eyes are closed. It will be a long night

Pray for our baby chick 🐤
