📍 ICA Expands to Milwaukee!

Today, InSite Consulting Architects (ICA) officially opens our new office in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, located in the historic Eagleknit Building (507 S. 2nd Street, Suite 140).

Listed on the Wisconsin State Register of Historic Places, the Eagleknit Building reflects the craftsmanship and character that define our work—and makes it a fitting home for a firm focused on the stewardship of existing buildings.

While ICA is well known for historic preservation, our practice is grounded in deep expertise in building envelope and roofing systems. From enclosure and roof assessment and restoration to adaptive reuse and new construction, we deliver a comprehensive, performance-driven approach across all project types.

This expansion builds on ICA’s recent ownership transition, strengthening our ability to serve clients throughout Wisconsin and the region.

✨ We’re proud to be in Milwaukee and excited to contribute to its architectural legacy.

Celebrating Women’s History Month - Today, we celebrate the women whose work continues to shape our communities and our firm!

Women have always shaped the built environment—often without the recognition they deserve. Today, and every day, we celebrate the leadership, expertise, and perspective that women bring to architecture, preservation, and the communities we serve.

Our industry continues to evolve, but meaningful progress requires ongoing commitment—to equity, representation, and creating pathways for future leaders. We believe that diverse voices make our work stronger, more thoughtful, and more enduring.

At ICA, we are proud to stand alongside the talented women who lead, design, and innovate across our firm—from Madison to Washington, DC. Their contributions are not only essential to our projects, but to advancing a more inclusive profession.

We celebrate you, we support you, and we remain committed to the work ahead.

The Next Generation of Leadership at ICA

Following our announcement of ICA’s expanded ownership team, we’re proud to share reflections from each of the Partners who will help steward the firm’s future. Stephen Mar-Pohl AIA, NOMA, NCARB, Chris Oddo, Zachary Mar-Pohl, Stacey Keller AIA NOMA NCARB, Oscar Izaguirre, and David Plank

Each brings a unique perspective — from preservation leadership and building-enclosure expertise to client relationships, mentorship, and operational leadership. What unites them is a shared commitment to the values that have guided ICA for more than 25 years: technical rigor, thoughtful collaboration, and care for the historic places entrusted to us.

As ICA continues to grow, our focus remains the same — preserving meaningful places, supporting our clients and communities, and investing in the people who make this work possible.

We’re grateful for the trust of our clients, collaborators, and friends across the preservation and AEC communities.

📢Leadership Transition at InSite Consulting Architects (ICA)

At ICA, ownership represents more than leadership — it represents stewardship, continuity, and responsibility.

As ICA enters its next chapter, we are proud to announce the expansion of our ownership team. Zac Mar-Pohl, Stacey Zwettler Keller, Oscar Izaguirre, and David Plank have joined the firm’s leadership as Partners and owners, building on the foundation established by founder and President Stephen Mar-Pohl and longtime Principal and co-owner Chris Oddo.

For more than 25 years, ICA has been guided by core values:
• respect for historic fabric
• integrity in technical decision-making
• accountability to our clients and communities
• investment in our people

As a federally registered small business, we also take pride in delivering consistent quality while supporting small-business participation across public and institutional projects nationwide.

Our expanded ownership reflects a shared commitment to preserving historic places through technical excellence, thoughtful process, and collaborative service.

Together, we look forward to continuing ICA’s mission — stewarding meaningful places, strengthening communities, and advancing preservation practice for years to come.

Today marks one year since we lost our dear friend, colleague, and leader, Gretchen K. Pfaehler, FAIA. Gretchen’s passion for historic preservation, sustainability, and social justice—and her generosity of spirit—left an enduring mark on our firm, our profession, and the many communities she served.

Her legacy lives on in the places she helped protect and reimagine, in the students and young professionals she mentored, and in the countless lives she touched through her advocacy and kindness. Though she is deeply missed, we continue to carry her values and her light forward in our work every day.

We honor her today and always. ❤️

“We were the last to know. Freedom had been won, but we were still in chains.” — Unknown

Today, we reflect on the delayed justice for the last enslaved people in the U.S. and the generations of strength that followed. As a firm dedicated to historic preservation, we are proud to support the recognition of African American heritage and the preservation of the spaces that tell these vital stories.
