Meet Our Agave Liners!

Native to the arid regions of the Americas, our agave liners thrive in full sun to part shade and are a top pick for xeriscaping thanks to their low water needs.

🌿 With over 200 species in North America, agaves bring texture and structure to rock gardens, desert-themed beds, and modern residential landscapes. Their rosettes of firm, serrated leaves make a stunning statement in 1–3 gallon containers or directly in well-drained soil.

💧 While drought-tolerant, they’ll reward you with stronger growth when given occasional watering and light fertilization—just make sure the soil dries out between waterings to avoid root rot.

✨ Fact: Agaves bloom only once—sometimes after decades—with a towering flower stalk. After flowering, the plant dies… but not without leaving behind pups or offshoots to keep its legacy alive.

Ready to add bold beauty and lasting impact to your plant lineup? Let’s grow agave together!

🌱 Why Tissue Culture Liners Are Worth It 🌱

At first glance, tissue culture liners may seem more expensive—but when you look at the long-term value, the choice is clear.

Take Yucca, for example. Traditional rhizome division is labor-intensive and costly. Tissue culture liners, on the other hand, streamline the process, eliminating inefficiencies while ensuring:

✅ Faster growth – Get crops to market sooner
✅ Less plant loss – Reduce waste and maximize profitability
✅ Consistent, high-quality plants – Every liner is true to type
✅ Lower overall costs – Efficiency saves time, labor, and resources

Quality. Efficiency. Profitability. That’s the power of tissue culture!

Tissue Culture vs. Stem Cuttings: Which Wins? 🌿

There is a popular understanding that Tissue Culture is a methodology to propagate plants that are sterile, whether it produces non-viable seeds or no seeds at all, require a long time to produce a flower and seed or because it is difficult to propagate by other asexual methods like via cuttings.

A recent study conducted by Tim Pannkuk and Kaitlin Hopkins of Sam Houston State University, compared the growth of Callistemon vinimalis or Bottlebrush propagated through tissue culture (TC) vs. traditional stem cuttings (CO) during a 34 week period.

The results?

Tissue-cultured plants had root weights over 250% higher than those grown from cuttings! While stem growth was similar, the faster root development in TC plants could lead to shorter production cycles and reduced labor costs for nurseries. 🌱

For growers, this means tissue culture might be the way forward to boost efficiency and profitability not only for Callistemon but for many more varieties including those propagated through traditional means.

At MGN Liners we have been working on tissue culture protocols to propagate crops that are commonly propagated by cuttings but that growers have had challenges with their performance in the field.

🌱 Elevate Your Crop Success with MGN Liners' Tissue Culture Expertise! 🥼

Last year, our team had the opportunity to spend time in Arizona visiting both current and prospective customers. It was incredible to see the healthy growth in the Phoenix area and beyond, driven by the expansion of the region. 🏜

What excites us most is how well our succulent young plant assortment fits this dynamic market! 🌵

Even more exciting was identifying new tissue culture opportunities, especially for several Yucca varieties, which tend to be inconsistent when grown from seed.

By using tissue culture liners, we can ensure true-to-type, uniform crops with every planting. Our R&D team is already hard at work preparing protocols and media formulas for these new Yuccas. If you have any suggestions for plants to add to our list, we'd love to hear them!

🔬 How does MGN Liners work through Tissue Culture?

We start by sourcing the highest-quality mother plant stocks and applying rigorous disinfection protocols to ensure the purity of every culture.

Stage 1: We initiate multiple tissue cultures from our healthy stocks.

Stage 2: These cultures are multiplied through precise lab techniques to meet your desired quantities.

Stage 3: Rooting of explants is carefully promoted to ensure success in the field or greenhouse.

Stage 4: Finally, we acclimate the rooted explants to their growing conditions, setting the stage for vigorous growth.

This meticulous process ensures your crops not only thrive but exceed expectations.

At MGN Liners, we're proud to combine science with growth. 🌱
