Here is another view of the house in Montgomery, Texas showing the renovations completed by Archer Landscape Design.

In addition to making the walls match the existing stone on their house, they were concerned about the erosion at the start of their front walkway where it intersects their driveway. The area couldn't grow grass and consisted of exposed tree roots and bare dirt.

Archer found a solution and the customers loved it. The wall around the bed next to the house will prevent much of the runoff, and covering the formerly exposed area with Black Star gravel created a sleek, walkable area over the exposed roots. You may also notice the little planting area in front of the wall. The clients asked for a small bed for them to plant in as they see fit when the mood strikes, so we gave them one.

A homeowner recently expressed frustration when we told him we install surface drainage instead of relying solely on pipe drainage. To his mind, drainage meant underground pipes.

Unfortunately, tree roots are also underground looking for a source of water, meaning drainage pipes often end up full of roots and stop working.

One of our crew leaders sent us the photo on the right of a landscape drainage pipe completely overtaken by roots, solving the mystery of why the drainage on this property in Spring, Texas no longer functioned.

A typical channel drain can handle up to 6 inches of rain per hour. They stay cleaner and last longer than drainage solutions that rely exclusively on underground pipes. Even better, they are an attractive design element in your landscape.

Archer Landscape Design installs both commercial and residential landscapes! This paver walkway was recently installed on a commercial campus in Northwest Houston near US 290. This custom design includes natural stone retaining and seating walls, natural boulder accents, a custom build wooden pergola, and wooden trellises that will eventually be covered with climbing vines (part of the joy of a new landscape is watching the plants fill in after they are established). 🥰
