📣 Information Alert 📣
It has come to our attention that high efficiency furnaces (condensing furnaces 90+ AFUE) require condensate neutralizers in the system, per Massachusetts code.
What is a condensate neutralizer kit?
A condensate neutralizer is a tank or a vessel that is installed in line with a condensate drain from a condensing boiler, water heater or furnace (before it enters the sewer). It’s filled with media that raises the pH level of the condensate, making it safe to discharge into the sewage or septic system.
Do I need a condensate neutralizer on my furnace?
Any gas-fired condensing appliance requires a condensate neutralizer. This is because gas-powered appliances produce low pH wastewater. If you allow this water to drain into your pipes or local wastewater system, you run the risk of serious damage to your equipment as well as wastewater violations.
How often do you replace a condensate neutralizer?
We recommend you refill your condensate neutralizers at least once per year. If your facility produces a large amount of condensate, however, more frequent refills may be necessary.
Systems have previously been installed without neutralizers, or neutralizers were installed but the stones have not been replaced. Some neutralizers are accessible for replacement of the stones alone, and some are single use.
If you have a neutralizer and it is not serviceable, the following options are available:
A: Replace it with another non-serviceable kit with annual replacement plan
B: Replace it with a serviceable kit with an annual stone replacement plan
Better Comfort can provide this service at the time of a service call, or at the time of a routine scheduled maintenance.
Attached are units we have previously provided. The “original” being the non-serviceable option. The “recommended” being the serviceable option.
Cost to install a neutralizer kit, or to replace a non-serviceable kit with a serviceable kit is $210.00. From there, an additional $52.00 will added to your HVAC maintenance agreement to accommodate annual stone replacement. (For non-maintenance customers, please call for pricing.)
If you have any questions, and/or would like to discuss options, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
