We’re so to have family and friends that co-sign our brand of weird.

Many thanks to Ryan’s Dad who, finding himself in possession of a semi truck brake drum, thought to himself, “My son and insane daughter-in-law like rusty metal circles. I should offer it to them!”

That we do. Jazzed to add another planter to our welcome array of… well, rusty metal circles.

I have been gardening for 7 years and, until today, have never successfully grown a zucchini.

To celebrate failure — and perseverance, I suppose — here are a collection of outtakes from a photoshoot where I tried to pose with said zucchini like men pose with fish.

thoughts on salad szn 🥬:: Each year we’ve had a garden at Teal House, we’ve set a growing goal. We’ve created a spreadsheet. We weigh our harvests.

Last year, we netted over 350 lbs of produce from our garden, which measures in at WAY less than a quarter acre. This year, our goal is… … 500 lbs.

There, it’s out in the world. No going back now. Half a ton or bust. 🙌🏼 [Edit: My friend Tiffany depressingly informed me that 500 lbs is a quarter ton. Don’t mind me; medium at gardening, solidly bad at math. 😐]

May is salad szn in zone 6. The first harvests of the year bring a couple handfuls of radishes, some giant — albeit light-as-a-feather— stalks of rhubarb, gobs of aromatics (pinch your herbs, people!!), but mostly bowls and bowls of greens.

… which weigh, as anyone on a fitness journey who has ever eaten exclusively sad desk salad can attest, very little.

But this is where the journey to half a ton of veggies starts, with a heaping colander of greens on Saturday, and another today. We’re officially at 2.5 lbs to goal, but still less than 1%.

2025 growing, here we go!💪🏼

Garlic has been planted and the garden is tucked in for the winter… Bring on the snow!!! ❄️

For those curious, we smashed our goals this year, growing just over 350 lbs of food on our 1/3 acre lot!

We mostly avoided garden burnout, but we’d be lying to say that we’re not looking forward to this season of reading, planning, and rest.

Wishing you all a holiday season filled with light, ease, and sweetness!! 🤍

WE DID IT!!! 🥳 Today’s harvest brought us to 333 lbs of produce grown or foraged this year, exceeding our 300 lb goal.

Theres still a few things to come out of the garden… black radishes, daikons, carrots, and celery. It’ll be razor close, but we might just see 350 lbs. 😱

Thanks, y’all, for your words of encouragement, especially over the last couple nail-bitey weeks. It’s scary to shoot your shot on the internet, knowing full well you might miss! But, so glad we aimed high.

Like, we gotta go for 400 lbs next year, amirite??

(If you see those weeds in the background, no you don’t. 😐)

Y’all!!! 🥳 These red onions just pushed us over the 200 lb mark for produce harvested or foraged this year!

This is a huge hurdle on our way to our goal of 300 lbs in 2024. Still to come:
🥔 Potatoes
🎃 Winter squash
🍠 Radishes + daikons
🍅 More tomatoes
🫛 Peas (hopefully)
🥕 Carrots
🥬 Winter greens (…although they don’t add much to the total.)

Keep your fingers crossed for us!! 🤞🏼

Our friend Steve had Audrey back on the Rootbound Podcast, where she shared about the plant (in the TealHouse garden!) that helped her heal a scary allergic reaction.

Check it out where you listen to such things!
