thoughts on salad szn 🥬:: Each year we’ve had a garden at Teal House, we’ve set a growing goal. We’ve created a spreadsheet. We weigh our harvests.
Last year, we netted over 350 lbs of produce from our garden, which measures in at WAY less than a quarter acre. This year, our goal is… … 500 lbs.
There, it’s out in the world. No going back now. Half a ton or bust. 🙌🏼 [Edit: My friend Tiffany depressingly informed me that 500 lbs is a quarter ton. Don’t mind me; medium at gardening, solidly bad at math. 😐]
May is salad szn in zone 6. The first harvests of the year bring a couple handfuls of radishes, some giant — albeit light-as-a-feather— stalks of rhubarb, gobs of aromatics (pinch your herbs, people!!), but mostly bowls and bowls of greens.
… which weigh, as anyone on a fitness journey who has ever eaten exclusively sad desk salad can attest, very little.
But this is where the journey to half a ton of veggies starts, with a heaping colander of greens on Saturday, and another today. We’re officially at 2.5 lbs to goal, but still less than 1%.
2025 growing, here we go!💪🏼
