Helpful Hint: If you have water stains, ink or magic marker on painted surfaces you should use a shellac-based primer such as Kilz or Sherwin Williams brand primer on the impacted areas before applying finish paint to keep the stain, ink or marker from bleeding through. The water-based stain blocking primers do not work.

Helpful Hint: If non-paintable silicone has been used around tub/shower units or backsplashes in kitchens or baths, paint will not adhere to it so you will need to apply a coat of shellac-based primer such as Kilz which will allow the wall or trim paint to bond.
