✨We asked three of our team members what plant they're most excited about right now...

Dana's pick is Bee Balm (Monarda)... deer resistant, rabbit resistant, and pollinators absolutely love it. She says it checks every box on most gardeners' wish lists! 🦌🐇🐝

Emily says you need to stop and smell this Rose Verbena! It's a Missouri native, blooms from late spring through frost, and that fragrance is👌🏼.

And Emi's loving the Salvia this season... the variety, the pollinators, the way it performs as a thriller in a porch pot... oh, and it's typically deer resistant, too! 🦌 You can't go wrong with Salvia!

All three are in stock right now. ☀️

Open today and Saturday, 9-6 and Sunday 10-5.

🍅 Cherokee Purple, Supersweet 100, San Marzano, Beefmaster … and that's just a small sample of tomato varieties we have available. If you've been waiting to plant tomatoes, now is the perfect time! 🍅

Be sure to grab some marigolds (a new batch arrived today!) and basil while you're here too.

🌼Marigolds deter pests and draw in pollinators.

🌿 Basil repels certain insects and smells incredible doing it.

The three together make great companions!

Stop in and browse our selection... Beth and our team are here to help you find exactly what you're looking for!

Erosion Control + MSD's Project Clear

Here's a scenario we hear from customers and perhaps you can relate.

Homeowner: I have a sizable space on a hill (or slope), and I want to plant a groundcover to help the soil from eroding. Oh, and I have deer.

Sound familiar?

First, we want to commend you for choosing plants for your space! The root systems of plants are a far superior solution at stabilizing the soil vs putting rock or mulch down or leaving turf grass in place. And if you're going to choose plants, make it dynamic! Use shrubs and perennials. Let the space tell a really cool story by offering different textures, bloom time, flower shape, and color! What's even better is the idea of creating a little ecosystem on your property where caterpillars, butterflies/moths, birds, bees, and other unsung heroes can thrive!

Grow Native! has a Hillside Garden Plan (https://grownative.org/hillside-garden-plan/) created for your inspiration. Different plants can be selected based on the lighting, drainage, and soil type of your property. Our native experts in our Natives Dept. can talk you through plant pairings to solve your erosion woes.

Also, MSD has grant money available through Project Clear. Homeowners in a certain program area are encouraged to manage the stormwater on their property. This includes the removal of turf grass and planting native plants. Click here (https://stlmsd.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=1dc144bdb9b2484b82cfe73cc8a3c8d1) to see if you fall in the covered area. Click here (https://msdprojectclear.org/about/project-clear-initiative/) for more on the Project Clear Initiative.

Stop and Smell the Roses 🌹

We couldn't possibly highlight roses in this newsletter and not mention that the Missouri Botanical Gardens has a Rose Society of Greater St. Louis Show on Saturday, May 23rd from 10:30 - 4pm. Included with General Admission.

"New cultivars and old favorites are shown by the area's top rose growers, who are on hand to offer plant care advice and share information about their organization." - MOBOT
