This building has been standing since the 1870s. When we took on the Williamsburg Schoolhouse, it had spent decades as an artist’s loft, utilitarian, bare, stripped of any domestic character. Our job was to give it back its soul. Every decision was made to honor the age of the building like reclaimed North American chestnut floors, 1700s Delft ceramic tile, antique earthenware sinks, salvaged doors with their original hardware still intact. When you walk in today, it feels like it has always been a home. That was always the goal.
